

He attended San Luis Elementary School, FEU High School, and eventually graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology (with full scholarship by playing saxophone on the college band). He earned a BS Degree in Civil Engineering in 1954 and passed the Philippine Board for Civil Engineers examination the same year.
After passing the board examination, he was hired by the National Irrigation Administration and was assigned the task of designing and overseeing construction of major irrigation projects/structures in the Philippines such as the Pantabangan Dam. He then accepted a position with USAID and was assigned to work on more irrigation structures on the Helmand Valley irrigation project in Afghanistan for 4 years.
Upon returning to the Philippines, he joined a US Navy engineering branch called OICC (Officer-in-Charge of Construction) in Makati, Philippines. He joined other engineers in the US Navy and worked on military projects in Subic Bay and other US military bases.
In May of 1973, he and his family migrated to the United States. He was hired by Bechtel Power Corporation after passing the Maryland State Board for Professional Engineers. Nominado worked in various nuclear power plants infrastructure while working with Bechtel.
In 1976, the family moved to California and Nominado was rehired by Bechtel in Norwalk, California. He worked on more nuclear power projects until his retirement in 1993.
Nominado enjoyed playing the alto saxophone and loved getting visits from his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Violeta Apostol, their 3 children Marion, Nominado Jr., and Jose, daughters-in-law Donna, Cynthia, and Michele, 8 grandchildren Jealee, Stephanie, Tiffany, Derek, Vincent, Andrew, Natalie, and Katrina; his sister Dionisia Sun.
