My 7th grade year I was kinda of a loner and an outcast. I didn't do well in school but there was this one funny and kinda nerdy but also way too English teacher who wouldn't let me quit it give up. He had a poetry assignment we were doing and he pushed and pushed me to write something...anything he said. When I finally finished and I got my grade back I not only passed but I got an A... because of Mr Divers I actually became interested in school and my grades and doing better. I have many found memories of that class and him as a teacher. I don't think he ever knew just how much he impacted me. Even to this day I talk about that class. I pray your family keeps finding peace and healing.

Patrick was my Daughter's teacher in 7th grade , her grades were slipping and we had a parent//eacher conference.  Best conference ever, we talked and laughed and he told me not to worry too much. Not long after,  Patrick was gone and my daughter finished 7th grade with a substitute. I was a little mad until I found out why he was gone. He was  fighting his own battle. I had kids at the school for the next 4 years so was able to keep up with his progress, my show of support was Pretty much a wave and thumbs up from a distance.  I did not know his day- to- day struggle until I joined the fb page. I have cried and prayed and have been inspired by a man who was not only an awesome teacher but an awesome husband and father. My daughter is a Senior now applying for college. She wouldn't be where she is today without the teachers who put her on the right path. Patrick was one of those teachers who left a lasting impression.  I can't express my apprication  enough. Thank you Mr.Divers, she'll do you proud. Chrissy, thank you for sharing your journey.  You and your beautiful boys are always in my prayers xxx

I met my friend Chrissy the day she married this man. He was amazing from the start. A loving husband, an amazing dad, a provider for his family. He was truly a genuinely great man inside and out. He continued to prove just what a "super" man he was throughout his long fight of cancer. It was an honor to know him. You are missed dearly and never forgotten

I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Divers during the 2012-2013 school year; he was my seventh grade English teacher. 
I remember small details: his love for The Simpsons, how he only wrote in Uppercase, and his welcoming smile that he always seemed to have. 
Hearing the news broke my heart, but I know that he's no longer suffering. As for the family, I send my prayers and my love.

  It was an honor to know Patrick and to see and hear how he lived his life. He was an example to us and it was awesome to see how he touched others in their lives. He will remain in our hearts forever and we will meet him again in heaven.

Our best memories of Vista Ln are because of your family. We feel so blessed to have had the privilege to live next to such a positive, courageous, fun, strong and God loving family. We miss you all so much. 
As an oncology nurse, I have watched cancer take the lives of so many undeserving people. But, never have I seen a family handle such an unfortunate situation in such a graceful way. Positivity poored out of Patrick at every turn in the road. He never lost his faith, sense of humor, or drive to support his family. He was truly remarkable. 
I can't wait to see him again in heaven. We will have real pizza & root beer, birthday parties, family game nights, camping trips, poker tournaments and "kids vs adults" baseball in the driveway once again!!!

Patrick was an amazing man who always had a smile on his face.  We lived next door for several years & couldn't of  asked for better neighbors. Patrick was always there if we needed something & never complained.  I remember the day he told us about his cancer, standing in the driveway showing us his scar like it was no big deal.  He was a true superman!! He stayed so strong and positive through all of his treatments and surgeries.  He loved his family and would do what was needed to make sure his family was taken care of.  He was loved by many and will be missed each and every day by all of us!!

I never met Patrick, but the way he lived his life has become a touchstone for my own.  Thank you, dear family, for sharing his struggles and triumphs.  May his sons remember their father's courage, and feel his love for them, whenever they need comfort..

I honesty didn't really know Mr. Divers and I didn't have him as a teacher but when I seen him at THMS when I went there he would always smile at me. That made my everyday when I seen him because for someone to not know you and care is an amazing feeling. I am sorry your your loss and he was a great person.

I am friends with Chrissy and unfortunately never met Patrick. Through Facebook posts I came to know what an incredible person Patrick was! His life and love for his family is an inspiration...even for those who only heard about his story. May God bless Chrissy and their boys...one day there will be a joyful reunion in heaven...until then rest in the assurance Patrick is in the presence of Jesus.

So back when my husband Gary and I were first married I remember going with Gary who played softball with Patrick, and Jim Hudson. These guys loved to play ball! It was so much fun watching them play! I remember Patrick had a nickname for my husband. Gary (unfortunately) is a smoker. Patrick's nickname for him was "Smokestack". Patrick was always smiling, and making us all laugh. He, Jim, and Gary had been friends for what seemed like forever! I know they have a lot of stories from their youth. They had a lot of fun together! We lost touch with Patrick over the years. We would see him and his family around town or at school events and we were always excited to catch up with them. I wish we would have been closer with him and his family. They all are such amazing people of stength and faith!

 Chrissy, my heart goes out to you and your boys. I have been praying for you all for a long time. And I want you to know that I will continue to pray for you and your boys.  God gained an amazing soul who I know is watching over us all!

I didn't know Patrick as long or as well as others at Terrace Hills, but it didn't take much to see what a special and inspirational man he was. He had a positive view on everything that was infectious to those around him. He was strong, loving, passionate, and a joy to be around. It was a blessing to know him as long as I did because he taught me so much. I was blessed to have someone like him in my life. I will miss him dearly.

I did not know this great man but was praying for him for a long time.  His fight was made known to me thru a friend.  He is in God's hands and the Guardian angel to his family.

I am so honored to have had the opportunity to have known and worked with Patrick for the short period of time that I did. He is one of the few individuals that you could easily tell genuinely loved what he did, and was always inspiring. While this loss has undoubtedly left a void in the lives of many, his essence and spirit live on in all of those who were blessed enough to have him in their lives. Patrick, thank you for all that you have done in your time here and for being such an outstanding person. I know that a time will come when we will see each other again! I had Mr.Divers as an English teacher five years ago at THMS, and he was always so incredibly positive. The first day I remember he talked through basically the entire period telling us about his rules and expectations for the class, but mostly about his personal life. He didn't teach both quarters of second semester because he was out sick, but the semester and a half I did have with him was a really great class. He's also the only reason I watched the Super Bowl that year because he gave candy to whichever student could predict the score closest, and I'm proud to say I won! He also taught my little brother's drama class when he was in middle school two years ago, and he directed a production my sister was in nine years ago at THMS. All three of us loved his personality so much. Sending lots of love and prayers to your family. Thank you for sharing your wonderful husband/father with us for so many years, and I am so sorry for your loss.

To a man that had no idea just how his life enriched so many. Patrick will be sorely missed.

Patrick I will always remember you for your compassion, sense of humor, your smile, your big heart and your love for baseball even though I am a Dodger fan HaHaHa...it was fun talking baseball with you in my library. I thank you with all my heart for all the Christmas picture cards you brought to me so I could display them in my library for all to see. Patrick has always been a great coworker at Terrace Hills Middle School. Because I was a school counselor there, I had many opportunities to visit Patrick's classroom to present social topics to his students. I appreciated his support and enthusiasm when I was there. Aside from that, I think of the after school staff meetings, and we would all be tired from our busy day of students, and Patrick would be there smiling and cracking jokes, just making us laugh.

I admired Patrick's courage and heroism for more than 6 years. I can't imagine going through all the treatments he went through and still be upbeat and cheerful. I will keep his great smile that he greeted me at work every time he saw me forever in my heart. He put in his greatest effort to show up and teach till the last minute. Patrick, I will never forget you.

I never saw Patrick at Terrace Hills without a smile on his face.  I will miss him.

I am blessed to see how God used you to be the loving wife of Patrick and amazing mother of your boys. From the day I met you, Patrick, and 1 month old Troy, I have always admired how much love and adventure your family has! I loved watching Patrick interact with the boys and always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. After his diagnosis, I watched how he humbly stayed steadfast in his faith and dedication to the family.

Although the time we've had with Patrick seems short, I am thankful for the memories we have and that God has given us the promise of hope, of eternity, where we will no longer have pain or tears of sorrow... where Patrick awaits us now.

Troy, Alex and Grant.....your Dad was one of my closest friends for the better part of 25 years.  He was like a big brother to me, and I will always remember him.  I spent some of the best years of my life living with him before we were married.  I remember when he met your Mom, and how happy he was the day of their wedding.  I stood proudly in my tuxedo to watch your mom and dad become husband and wife.  When you boys were born it changed him forever.  He loved you more than anything, and he helped me learn that there is nothing more important in life than the people you love.  Your Dad was so proud of you.  Just remember that a piece of him lives on inside of you.  I have no doubt that his traits will someday shine through, and you will become awesome husbands, fathers and friends.  I will miss your dad, but I can't wait to see his legacy live on through you.

It's going to be tough without Patrick in my life. He's been there for 35 years. I was lucky enough to grow up with Pat.  We each became men, we each became husbands, we each became fathers, and most importantly we each became Christians.  
I will remember him forever.  I'm thankful that I'll have Troy, Alex, and Grant around to keep Patrick's spirit with me.  
I'd like to thank Chrissy for being the woman of faith, and having the patience to bring Patrick to the Lord.  A lot of people did not know Patrick before Chrissy and that's because Patrick didn't know the Lord before Chrissy the way he did after Chrissy. And because of this, he was able to touch a lot of people's lives with his fight against cancer and his faith and his undeniable courage.

To my Divers nephews ~ I love you so much! One of the best things you will always have in your hearts is the gift of reading your dad has passed to you!! This is a precious memory that a lot of your generation will not have. It is one of the many ways you will be able to remember your father fondly, with pride and love. 
To my sister ~ Thank you for loving the Lord our God so much!!! It is because of this, hope is shown to others. May you remember this, in good times and bad. Ps. 71 I love you so much!

Patrick was an excellent brother and I will always remember the summers he spent with my brothers and me.  We played countless hours of baseball and tennis, took many trips to the beach, and often broke out the boxing gloves. 

As he grew older, he developed into an amazing husband to Chrissy, father to his boys, teacher to his students, and friend to his family and peers.  Patrick also remained loyal in his love with the Lord despite his diagnosis and hard-fought battle with cancer.  He was also known to win the occasional hand of Texas Holdem. 

I will always be proud to call him my brother when I look back and recall how gracefully he dealt with the realization that he would be taken from us much to soon. He faced every treatment and operation head-on and through it all I never recall hearing a single complaint. 

I love you Patrick and I will never forget the times we shared, your warm smile, witty remarks, and  your frequent bouts of laughter.

Dear Chrissy, Troy, Alex and Grant - You are in my thoughts and prayers, your family is an inspiration to me!  I've been constantly amazed by your strength and perseverance.

Patrick was such a trooper and awesome example, especially during the tough times. I could see by the way he looked at you all that he loved you with all of his heart. My memories of Patrick are of a man who always had a smile and something positive to say about somebody. Over the summer of 2016 I was having some health issues nothing like his, but none the less, one day while at work I get an inner office communicator message from Patrick just checking in with me and reminding me to stay healthy but also to remember praying that the power of prayer was so helpful. Which is so true.  

The other memories that I will hold just a much are during the sports seasons Patrick was participating along with several other friends in Fantasy sports. Baseball and Football. It was so much fun, the conversations were always enjoyable. I will miss those moments. 

Ultimately though i will remember Patrick as an amazing friend and Man of God. He fought so admirably against this ugly disease and he took the fight to it with amazing gusto. I remember the story of Patrick, just after one of his surgeries going right to his belly and helping a young boy in distress in a pool, Patrick was right there to help. What an amazing man. 

Patrick rest in peace my friend. I miss you already and I am sure you'll find ways to let us know you are present in our lives. Thanks for sharing your time with us and showing us the way to live a life fully. You the Man. Go Red Sox.

What an amazing legacy Patrick has given to you, Chrissy, Troy, Alexander, and Grant, and to his family, friends, his coworkers, and all the young people he has taught and poured his life into.   He was a man who lived out his faith and who walked with courage and integrity.  We will always remember his smile, warmth, and how much he loved his wife and boys.  We send our love and prayers.

You have all been so strong for so long!  What a life to be celebrated!  I'm happy that he is out of pain and in a better place.  My heart goes out to your family!

Patrick was a valiant man. His life of ministry was an offering to God as he poured himself into those the Lord had given to him. As he entered eternity, he could say along with the Apostle Paul,
"I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness..." 2 Tim 4:7-8

Chrissy, you are an extraordinary woman. When God brought you and Patrick together, He knew that you were the one who could walk with Patrick on this journey. You shine with the light of Jesus, as pure gold that has been through fire, like a diamond formed under intense heat and pressure. Patrick could say of you,
"A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good and not harm all the days of her life." Prov 31:10-12

Chrissy, together you and Patrick have been training three boys "in the way they should go" with the Lord's help. On the foundation of love and commitment that you and Patrick have laid, Jesus will give you wisdom, strength and grace to continue His work of molding each of them into men of God like their dad. 

Chrissy, Troy, Alexander and Grant, you are on our minds, in our hearts and in our prayers as you enter this new season of life. God is good. He is with you. Continue to trust Him as you begin to run this new leg of the race that He has set before you.

Patrick was an awesome teacher, husband, father, friend, and person. He had a positive outlook on life to begin with and cancer never took that away. I think Patrick was 3 years old when I first met him. I remember tickling him, chasing him, and rough-housing with him like an auntie does with a 3-year-old nephew -- me lying on the floor and lifting him up with my feet while he balanced on his tummy, stuck out his arms, and giggled to be "flying." Because I moved East I didn't get to see him too often as he grew up, but I know how much he meant to his dad and my sister and to Ryan, Colin, and Cory. 

Later, when he and I talked about the challenges and joys of teaching, he shared different teaching methods and activities with me which I then did successfully with my own students. He was dedicated to his students and to the art of teaching, developing hands-on methods and ways of involving them directly in the literature they were studying and in learning how to express themselves. I am thinking specifically of the personal brochures he taught me to teach my own students. Most significantly, I was deeply impressed with that discussion we had at Christmas 2014 about the priceless, immeasurable value of studying poetry (and will always regret I did not write down the name of that poem he talked about and I'm going to keep looking for it).

But all this is about play, and then work, and all those things pass away, The true and lasting meaning of Patrick's life will long be emerging and becoming clear, but to me it will have to do with how much he loved Chrissy, his boys, and his extended family, and never seemed to waver in his fight to live for all of you, yet -- somehow -- in being at the same time at complete peace within, despite that fierce, often painful fight. I know I did not see all the struggles, or the fears he must have experienced. But the time we all spent together at that 2014 Christmas week gave me this impression of that great peace and strength. He was amazing. All of us who knew him and witnessed even a part of that elemental peace will never forget it. I am so thankful for the little bit of time I got to spend with all the YDs and will keep you in my prayers. May his memory be eternal.

The memorial for your beloved Patrick was beautiful and I left there with even more respect and an appreciation for the incredible man, husband, father, teacher, friend he was. Your time was cut much too short with him, but what a blessing he was in your lives for the time he was with you.

Dearest Chrissy, Troy, Alexander and Grant Divers - Thank you for sharing your husband and father with so many. Although I just met Patrick in the 2015-16 school year, he has truly influenced and impacted my life. Before substituting his 7/8 grade English/Drama classes, I was obtaining a credential for primary teaching but I switched to a secondary teaching credential because Mr. Diver's allowed me to explore and experience the joy of middle school teaching. Patrick Divers is an inspiration and truly is "Superman" for his positive and never-ending spirit. My heart and prayers are with you. Much love and blessings to all of you.

We will miss Patrick so much. I have never met anyone else so strong. It has been so encouraging watching him hold his faith so close while fighting so hard. I will always remember, even on some of his hardest days, he would pray for other people.  He loved his family so much. I loved seeing how much he loved watching his boys play sports. He was at their games until the very end. We are so glad that we got to spend the last few years with him and his family. He will be so missed!

Patrick, was a breath of fresh air for me. he always had a smiling face.

Patrick was an example of what is right in this world. I looked up to him as an example of a caring teacher, a loving parent, and faithful friend. His constant positively in the midts of this trial was incredible. If we all could be just a little more like him, the world would be a much better place.

Our "Superman" is now soaring with the angels. May The Lord hold you in the palm of his hand.

We lost a great teacher, and a wonderful person to this killer disease.. This truly breaks my heart.. We may have lost him, but at the same time we all gained an Angel..

Sunday Strivers! Heaven's gain is clearly our loss. Over the years you and your family modeled what faith and hope truly looked like. You never wavered in your faith and showed us all how to find the positives in life. I don't think anyone will ever be able to calculate the number of lives you have changed; I mean you have literally altered the course for generations. Children will tell their children and they will be lead to Christ all because of the journey and pain you and your family took on.  I am beyond proud to call you a friend, but I must say, you have set the bar insanely high for the rest of us dads and husbands to try to reach (how Patrick of you)!  I look forward to the day we meet again and you can remind me how my Lions are horrible.  Nothing but love and peace for The Divers, easily the strongest family I have ever met!

Well even though I wasn't very close to Mr. Divers as I wish I had been. He was one of the best teachers I had. He was very funny and loved talking about his family. You will be very missed Mr. Divers. God is with you now.

Patrick was the most positive and dedicated person I have met. He always amazed me with his perseverance and a smile on his face every day.

May your light continue to shine through your caring, loving, and brilliant young boys. May the light of Christ light the way for Chrissy during this difficult time.

I am so honored to be a part of your lives. Our children led to our friendship and I'm so grateful. You both have raised such polite wonderful boys. All so handsome too! The love Patrick had for the boys was tangible. Three occasions stand out to me.  First, his oldest son Troy was at 5th grade camp and Patrick was unexpectedly hospitalized. Troy was unaware and enjoying his time, I'm sure.  Patrick was discharged on the day Troy was set to return home.  Patrick literally went straight to the school, passed the bus Troy was on, and was standing there to pick him up with open arms. Second, Patrick was scheduled for a procedure in LA on the same day as his youngest son Grant's kindergarten back to school night. Again, he drove straight from his LA doctors, and made it in time to attend the school event. And last, Patrick's middle son Alex was getting an Academic award at a time when Patrick wasn't feeling well, June 3, 2016.  Nothing would keep him away. He was there to cheer and clap with pride. I personally saw Patrick's selfless love for his children on these occasions. His love will last an eternity.

Patrick Divers was one of the first teachers I had that changed my perspective on school. He made learning exciting and lively. I will always remember him sitting on his desk legs crossed so engrossed in his lesson that he didn't need notes. He's unforgettable. I'm sure my story will be one of many. A man like Patrick doesn't come along too often. To his wife and children I offer my deepest condolences. He will be sorely missed  and never forgotten.

I am so glad I had a part, even a very small part, in bringing Patrick and Chrissy together.  Chrissy liked Patrick but didn't want to be the one to start their relationship - I told her to hell with that attitude, just go for it and what a match it was. Hello I'm lanessa i had Mr divers as my drama and extra support classes for 2 years (2013-2014) he was the best teacher I ever had to this day, he believed in me when all my other teachers didn't. I wasn't the best student didn't always have good grades but he was always their to help me when I needed him. I miss walking into class seeing his big smile and hearing him tell jokes and talk about his kids and wife he was a great man that changed not only my life but many people and students. I wanted to take the time to thank him, my prayers go out to his wife, kids and family, I am really sad to find this out he passed the day after my birthday but I know he's not sick no more he's in a way better place and we will all see him soon.

I met Patrick and his family in 2012 by taking their family photos. I immediately loved working with this fun, energetic couple and their gorgeous boys. Throughout the photo session, I could just see in Patrick's eyes and expression the love and admiration he had for both his wife and his boys. I continued to take family photos for the Divers for the next few years. Patrick was the face of bravery and Chrissy had such strength. I remember editing photos one year crying and thinking, I don't know how they do it. I always looked forward to photographing the Divers family. They had such fun, they were silly, loved each other and all of that was so apparent to me. Chrissy, Troy, Alexander, and Grant I am so sorry for your loss. Know that you'll meet again one day in heaven and your beloved husband and father will always be watching over you.
