Procesion “Precy” Sagun Guico Obra, 92, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, following a brief illness. She was born on July 2, 1933, in Pangasinan, Philippines. She graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of the East (1955) and later attained her Certificate in Public Accounting from the University of the Philippines (1958). She later met and married her beloved partner of 67 years, Maximo A. Obra, and together they moved to the United States in 1972 in pursuit of new opportunities and a better life for their family.
After settling in Jersey City, Precy devoted herself to raising their seven children—Edgardo G. Obra, Maria Victoria O. Pe, Maximo G. Obra Jr., Emma Marie Rivera, Luisita O. Winfield, Augustus G. Obra, and Teresita O. Olson—while also contributing to the household through her work and steadfast dedication to her career as a staff analyst at the New York City Department of Health. Their Jersey City home became a beloved gathering place, always filled with laughter, celebration, and the warmth of family and friends. Precy took joy in making every birthday, wedding, anniversary, and holiday meaningful, creating memories that continue to live in the hearts of those she touched.
Upon retiring from the Department of Health, Precy and her husband Maximo relocated to Highland, California, bringing with them treasured mementos—and of course, her beloved orchids. There, surrounded by family and longtime friends, their home once again became a place of lively gatherings, karaoke sing-alongs, home-cooked meals, and the familiar joy and laughter that defined her presence. Retirement also opened a new chapter of adventure for Precy. She discovered a deep love for cruising and seeing the world, finding joy in exploring new places, meeting new people, and experiencing the beauty of life and culture beyond familiar shores.
A lover of nature and gardening, Precy nurtured an abundant collection of succulents, cacti, fruit trees, and her cherished orchids. Her garden flourished under her “magic touch,” yielding vibrant blooms and generous harvests that she loved to share with others. She delighted in posting photos of her plants on social media, offering cuttings to visitors, and proudly pointing out the latest orchid to bloom or the hummingbird nest she watched tenderly from her window. Her eyes sparkled whenever she spoke of her garden—it was one of her greatest joys.
Precy was a devoted and loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren—Christopher Brian Mariano, Christian Edward Mariano, Thomas James Obra, Vanessa Michelle Obra, Justine Marie O. Pe, Jeremy Lee O. Pe, Angel Gabriel Rivera III, Amanda Marie Rivera-Mendoza, Dominick Matthew Rivera, Maximo Lopez Obra III, Felicia Lopez Obra, Alec O. Winfield, Maximo O. Whitfield, and Aaron James O. Winfield—and a proud great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren: Naviya Vehda Rivera, Evangeline Emma Rivera, Noah Servedio-Winfield, and Shiloh Maximus Zayas-Winfield.
