Robert “Bob” was born to William (Bill) & Fern Donaldson in Nanty-Glo, PA on May 22, 1947. He was the third of four children. His Dad, Bill, moved the family to San Bernardino, CA in 1957 to keep his children from working in the mines and to protect them from exposure to Black Lung Disease which he experienced from the Coal Mines of Pennsylvania.
His Mother, Fern, worked tirelessly at home to ensure that the family always returned each day to a loving, warm and welcoming home. Both parents instilled a hard-work ethic, commitment to excellence and love and support to family as life-long values in their children and Bob carried and expressed these values throughout his life.
Bob attended San Bernardino High School graduating in 1965.
He then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1968. Bob served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharge at the rank of Corporal after his 3-year enlistment. Semper Fi!
In February of 1971, while working at Fedco, Bob met Donna Palmer, the love of his life and they became inseparable. They were married July 31, 1971. They made their home in Rialto until relocating to San Bernardino in 1992. Their home was always full of love which is felt at every family gathering held in their home.
Bob began his job with the United States Postal Service in March of 1974. He was a dedicated employee until his retirement in 2013. People would always comment on his warm smile and pleasant demeanor as he helped them throughout his years of employment and even after his retirement when they saw him out in public.
Bob’s quiet demeanor and steadfast warmth was always there to help the family through any situation. His warm and welcoming smile is already missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His smile will remain in our thoughts as a source of reassurance as we navigate without his steadfast guidance.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Donna (Palmer) Donaldson, his sisters Kay Neumeyer, (Roger) of Las Vegas, Nancy Dugas, (Earl) of San Bernardino, Sisters in Law, Monica (Kent) Bowcutt of Virgin, Utah and Cheryl (Ken) Decker of Highland, CA as well as numerous nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Bob and many cousins who already miss him dearly.
Bob is proceeded in death by his parents, William & Fern Donaldson, his brother David John Donaldson and nephew, David William Donaldson.
