Stephen Thomas Roth, on April 21, 2010, lost his battle with cancer but won the victory as he entered Heaven's Gates. He was born on December 29, 1960, in Fairfield, California, to Richard and Donna Roth. Stephen was a resident of San Bernardino, California, for most of his life and for the past eleven months had lived with and was cared for by his parents, also of San Bernardino. He is survived by his loving parents and family; a sister, Rebecca, of Oceanside; a brother, John, of San Bernardino; an aunt, Barbara Shearer, of Bakersfield; and uncle and aunt, Oscar and Elsie Knight, of Yuma, Arizona; many cousins, and numerous friends.
Stephen was a student of Valley Christian School where he graduated from ninth grade. He graduated from Pacific High School with the class of 1978, and attended San Bernardino Valley College.
Stephen worked as a teacher's assistant at Golden Valley Middle School for 29 years and was an assistant coach in the girls' sports program for almost as many years. His life was wrapped up in the lives of his students--helping to educate them and always encouraging them to strive for the best. Notes he received from many of the students made it evident that he was an "encourager." "Mr. Roth," as he was known to his students, was loved and respected by them as well as by Golden Valley's administrative, certificated, and classified staff members.
