

Barbara Ann McHenry, born on November 27, 1931, passed away on November 29, 2025, at the age of 94. Beloved wife of the late Charles J. McHenry, Devoted mother of Ronald, Thomas (Edilene), Karen McHenry-Grinder, Mary Ann Lopez (Joe), Donna Olenick (Bob), and Elaine Delisi (Sam); Cherished grandmother of Matthew, Catherine, Patrick, Lindsay, Amanda, Brittany, Dylan, Christopher, Blake, Isabella, John, and Jenna; Loving great grandmother of Parker and Paxton. She was preceded in death by her loving parents Harry and Ethel Mehlfelt.
Barbara was born and raised in Northwest Washington, DC. Growing up, she enjoyed family vacations at Colonial Beach and in St. Mary’s County where her mother was raised. She attended the School of the Nativity and Sacred Heart Academy. Barbara attended Strayer College and worked as a secretary at the Atomic Energy Commission. She married Charlie in 1954 and they began raising their first kids in the Adelphi, MD area. Growing out of that small house with the arrival of their fifth child, they moved to Calverton in Silver Spring, MD where they raised all six kids. In retirement, Barbara and Charlie vacationed frequently in Williamsburg, VA and Ocean Pines, MD and traveled the country with Barbara’s sisters and other family members. In the 2000s, they moved near Fulton, MD where they hosted many family gatherings in a larger new home. Barbara enthusiastically participated in her grandchildren’s development (they called her Mom-Mom) with her six children continuing to live nearby. Barbara was blessed with large loving families throughout a long and happy life.
Visitation services will be held at Witzke Funeral Homes Inc., located at 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD, 21045. The visitation will take place on December 11, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The funeral service will be conducted at St Francis of Assisi Parish, 8300 Old Columbia Rd, Fulton, MD, 20759, on December 12, 2025, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
The committal service is scheduled for December 12, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 12:15 pm at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD, 20906.
