Just found out about the passing of a dear friend,  Gary Alan Bailey.   Best thoughts to dear Suzanne, Debbie, Alex and Zachary.  Gary was a most amazing one.   His sense of humour was so unique and his love so  unconditional.  Gary was such an inspiration and so high on life.  You are for ever a force my most beautiful friend.   From  France with your greatest smile and sun glasses as perfect memories.

Gary and I started out knocking heads and ended being best of friends.  Together we kept the people around us laughing their heads off.  Deb you are blessed to have such great memories that you can pass on to the kids.  Gary is someone who will always be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. My condolences to you, Suzanne and your sons. Gary was my best friend in my early teenage years. We shared many memories of our adolesence. Talk about the Beatles and Rolling Stones, we briefly played in a band together in Howard Park. We met on our stringray bikes in 1962, went to Milford Mill swim club and teen dances, always looking for the next cute girl. Gary's quick wit and humor was just one part of his character that made him the center of attention in a very enjoyable way. I am looking at his picture with those sunglasses and can picture him at the Alaska Stand in OC. like it was yesterday. 

I am shocked and feel a sense of loss even though we have not talked in years he has always been in my thoughts. Please say hello to Gary's mom for me.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work for Gary at HCFA/CMS. I will always treasure his wit, intelligence and advice during the years I worked in the Medicare Managed Care group.  
 
Gary's enthusiastic personality was contagious.  He wanted everyone to smile. I recall when he asked Don Kosin to dance at an office Christmas party in D.C. (I think). Don obliged, and did a full split & made some other great Michael Jackson-type dance moves. Everyone cheered him on, and a fun time was had by all. 

Since I spoke too fast when I was nervous, Gary suggested I write the word "SLOW" several times across the top of my notes.  It was a good reminder to talk slowly. It worked like a charm!
  
I know Gary enjoyed Baltimore's famous chocolate fudge Berger cookies as he had shared them with us at the office.  I will always think of him when I see or buy them in the future.  
  
God comforts those who mourn. May you and your family feel his comfort now.

Gary was the brightest spot in my short time working with him.  He remained optimistic and was kind when kindness was not always what he received.  That is the measure of a good man.  Gary knew what was truly important and meaningful.  He will be remembered fondly and I miss him.

Dear Debbie, Alex and Zachary, we were stunned and saddened when Nik first texted us the news. We immediately reminisced about how we came to know him and your family through school, Boy Scouts and then through work at CMS. What do you say about a man who was a true professional, and a fun and caring human being all in one. He could instantly relate to any person of any age or who did any type of work and form a connection. We are so shocked and saddened by Gary's sudden passing.   Our  prayers go out to you, the boys, and Gary's mom.     As can be seen from the outpouring of sympathy in all of these messages, he was truly a very special person and he will be deeply missed.

Gary will forever be instilled in our hearts. He had the ability to make people smile at the drop of a hat and at times our smiles were in anticipation of his humorous antics and spontaneous personality. Gary made his employees feel involved, and kept them interested in their work, whether it be from a hand written "Thank You" card for a job well done, or inserting hilarious videos into his speaking presentations. Gary will be missed dearly, and I am honored to have worked with him.

Gary truly was a loving and fair person. He encouraged me as I studied in college and entered the workforce. I had the pleasure of working with Gary for a few years and enjoyed every minute! We hit it off immediately using our sense of humor just about every time we meet. What a great guy and awesome co-worker. Gary never let job titles overwhelm his super friendly, caring personality. He could talk and relate to anyone from housekeeping to the CEO. No matter how stressful the circumstances Gary could walk into a room and lighten the situation. It's not just because he was funny, it was because he cared enough to try to make things better for those around him and people could feel that. Gary was a great leader, mentor, and friend. I was saddened to hear of Gary's passing. I worked with him in the 70's. And, as he continued on his career path, he never changed. He was just Gary. A funny guy who loved life and his family. You and your family are in my prayers. May you feel God's love, peace and comfort!

I read what Susan Snow wrote and she beautifully expressed what I also feel. I remember taking a road trip with Gary to Washington DC for a meeting. Gary made me totally comfortable (he was a senior manger).  As you can imagine with Gary there was a wide ranging non-stop conversation which I remember as a lot of fun.  On the way back we stopped at Pasta Blitz in Clarksville for a late lunch. Everyone working in the restaurant knew Gary and greeted  him when we walked in.  It is a very sad loss.  Clearly Gary loved his life, his family and was a very happy, generous, kind man who will be greatly missed.

When I first met Gary 25 years ago, he was an emerging leader at CMS (then HCFA) and I was a lowly management intern trying to find his way in the world.  My first impression was of a smart, funny, charismatic guy with people skills that were off the charts.

As I got to know Gary over the years I realized that his people skills were not skills at all, but a reflection of the genuine affection and good will toward almost everyone he came in contact with.  Like so many others at CMS, I was a beneficiary of his kindness and decency.

Gary Bailey was an accomplished man professionally, but anyone who knew him was aware that you, Alex and Zach were his greatest pride and joy in life.

He was a gentleman and a friend and I will miss him.

The Family of Gary Bailey--I was so shocked and saddened to hear about the passing away of Gary.  Gary was  not only a great supervisor but also a colleague and friend.  Gary and I grew up together in HCFA/CMS back in Washington days when Gary was an analyst in the budget office and then in the coordinated/managed care days. To the Bailey family, this is really sad news!  Mr. Bailey (or Sir Gary as what his scholars refer to him) sponsors five scholars to school in St. Francis of Assisi School in the Philippines. I will surely miss his immediate replies every time I send him updates about his scholars. Yes, he is a very generous person as he has been supporting Tapulanga Foundation for many years already! Like so many others, I'm extremely saddened by the news.  I was fortunate to have worked on Gary's team at HCFA for several years.  15 years later, I still often reflect on what a great person and leader he was.  His enthusiasm, humor and passion were contagious and his family priority was clear.  Everything about him was admirable.  For years we shared a friendly competition on who had the best ties.  I'll always remember his witty comments on my ties each time our paths crossed in the hallway. He was a really great guy!

To the Bailey Family, I was for many years a worker bee near Gary in DC and in Baltimore and then reported to Gary in various roles.  His humor and fashion statement dress up always livened up our exchanges.  After he went to work with HealthSpring, he contacted me about numerous official matters with which I was doing the worker bee activities.  He treated me with respect, dignity and good humor which I tried to return.  Prior to my retirement he offered and provided counseling and mentoring and we met one-on-one a number of times during which he always spoke with love and concern about the boys and their transition to college students and adulthood, a transition I went through with my wife, Snow, with my two girls twelve years ago.  Aside from his leadership style and self-depracating humor and role as Mr. Meet and Greet for all of CMS, he was a great guy.  I cannot express to you how shocked, saddened and thrown for a loop so many of his friends from CMS have been this past week and hope you know that your pain of loss is shared with so many.  I reported in to him every two months on my status to confirm to him the value of his advice, which I largely followed.

I will be planting a tree in Israel in Gary's memory as is our custom and tradition to serve as my way of remembering him.

Learning of Gary's sudden passing was a stunning blow, and I was simply a colleague of his at HCFA many years ago. Debbie, Alex, Zach and family, We were very sad to hear of your loss.  Gary was a great man and a pleasure to work with.  He always asked about our 2 boys and would give us advise on how to raise them.  He will truly be missed.  Please know that our prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

 So sorry for your loss. Gary is and was a once in a lifetime personality. There was never a time he did not have time for me nor a time when he did not make me laugh. He is the very definition of a great friend. Tastykakes and Corona will always remind us of his time with us.

With deepest heartfelt sympathy, words cannot express the sadness I felt when I heard the news about Gary's  sudden passing.  As everyone has reiterated again and again, he was very special man who  left a lasting footprint with us that throughout all these years, one will  never forget.  He was a one of kind gentleman, colleague, son, husband, father, and friend. Over time, you will find each day will  get a little easier for you and your family but may the happy, special memories that you've cherished bring you smiles and laughter as we know he IS looking down on all of us.
May he R.I.P.  It was truly my honor that we were able to cross paths about 40 years ago. I will never forget his smiling face.

Debbie and family: Sending you prayers for comfort and my heartfelt condolences!  Gary was a very smart, friendly and kind man.  He will be missed.

I first met Gary at the University of Maryland in 1970 and we formed a bond that continued throughout our careers beginning at IRS and lasting through many years at HCFA/CMS.  It always brought a smile to both of us whenever our paths crossed.  Very sad to see him go so soon.  Our deepest sympathies to Debbie and family.

I am saddened for you and the kids' lost.  Gary was my buddy.  We started out in the CMS budget office remained good friends until he left CMS.  I would see him occasionally when he came to the building, He had a great spirit and will be missed.  My prayer are will you and yours during this difficult time.

I am so saddened by the loss of such a great light in our lives.  I had the pleasure of serving on boy scout committee meetings with Gary at the Firehouse.  He was always the light in the room! He will no doubt send you the strength to get through this and enjoy the love of your family.
