Born in the Monahan Plain region of Pennsylvania, John devoted his life to learning, service, and—above all—his family. He pursued higher education with passion and discipline, studying at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, the University of Virginia, and the University of Maryland at College Park, where he earned his PhD in Psychology.
John dedicated 49½ years to Montgomery County Public Schools, serving as a counselor and positively shaping the lives of countless students and families. His career reflected his deep compassion, patience, and belief in the potential of others.
He and his wife raised their family in Columbia, Maryland, a place that remained home in every sense of the word. John loved his family more than anything. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his world. He was their loudest supporter—rooting them on in sports, education, and life in general—with pride, encouragement, and unwavering love.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joanne Rynn; his son, John Theodore Rynn Jr.; his daughters, Robin Rynn-Finnegan and Tristan Rynn; his grandchildren, Neko Rynn-Mason, Weston Rynn-Mason, Sydney Rynn-Mason, Fauston Rollins, and Remi Rollins; and his great-grandsons, Zayden Rynn-Mason and Lux Green.
He was preceded in death by his parents John & Anna Rynn, his brother Ted Rynn, his grandson John Theodore Rynn III, and his granddaughter Makenzie Rynn.
John will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud and loving father and grandfather, a mentor, and a man whose life was defined by service, intellect, and deep family devotion. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the family he cherished beyond measure.
