Lila Cumm, 88, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away April 13, 2026. Lila, who was born amidst the turmoil of pre-war Europe in Ukraine on May 28, 1937, lost her parents to the war and emigrated to the US in 1952 with her Aunt, grandmother and brothers George, Marat and Gene. They settled in the southern part of Manhattan, where she met her Harvey when she was an accountant and model and he worked for IBM. The two were married in 1966 in Brooklyn, NY and raised a family in Canarsie, NY, Marietta, GA and Columbia, MD. Lila, who spoke six languages, devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, and was always quick to produce pictures of them from her bottomless purse. She reveled in relaying the stories of their latest accomplishments and travels. In her later years, after Harvey’s passing, she lived in the Selborne House in Ellicott City where she was much loved by her neighbors. Always a creative soul, Lila produced beautiful needlepoint, traveled a good bit and studied art history at the local college. She loved elephants, Hummel figurines, lottery scratch offs, QVC and Chock full of Nuts coffee. She is survived and warmly remembered by her children, Gene and Michele; their spouses Julie and David; her grandchildren, Megan, Sarah, Lauren and Christopher; and great grandchildren, Jace, Alaia, Enzo and Sophie. She was proud, generous and amazing.
