Louise Marion Claiborne was born on December 26, 1923 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Ernest and Minnie Jenkins; she was one of seven children. Louise was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools. She went on to become a master seamstress and earned her living in the garment manufacturing industry through retirement.
Louise, known to everyone as "Mama", "Mama Lou", or "Aunt Weez", married the late Daniel Richard Claiborne, Sr. Mama had eight children and was truly the matriarch of the family. Mama would describe herself as a God-fearing woman. She spent most of her life serving God through the church, especially in the choir. Her hobbies included drawing and other creative arts. She dreamed of being an architect.
Mama departed this life on August 24, 2015 at Howard County General Hospital. She was 91 years old. She transitioned to eternity in true "Mama style": surrounded by family, listening to gospel music, and comforted in prayer.
Mama will be missed and mourned by many, including her five living children, Carolyn McConnell, Patricia Sigler, Lil Chestnut, Brian Claiborne, and Deborah Claiborne, two sons-in-law, John Price and John Sigler, daughter-in-law Kim Claiborne, sixteen grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by three of her children, Daniel Claiborne, Jr., Gail Price, Kirk Claiborne, daughter-in-law Sandy Claiborne, and son-in-law Willie McConnell.
The family believes that if Mama could be here today and leave you with any parting words, they would be those: love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul; family comes first; and I am finally in my Father's arms. I look forward to our reunion on the other side.
