Meghan Lynne Lucas, 37, of Columbia, MD, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday October 19, 2024. Meghan was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Lisa Spekis and Jeffrey Johnson on December 26, 1986. She was a 2005 graduate of Belle Vernon Area High School, achieved a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Music Education degree from Stephen Austin State University.
Meghan began her career as a music educator and director of student support services at the Thomas Edison Charter School in Wilmington, DE for 11 years. In 2019, Meghan founded “Dear Strong Woman” – an organization which provides personal and life coaching, event speaking, podcasting, and website design. Her debut book “You Make the Rules” achieved a Top 20 Ranking in Amazon’s Happiness and Motivational Self-Help Categories. She was awarded Best Life Coach of Silver Spring, MD in 2022. She also worked as Client Care Coordinator at Red Cedar Real Estate in Columbia, MD since 2019.
Meghan was a multifaceted professional - a content creator, storyteller, and a creative force of nature who touched the lives of many. However, most importantly, Meghan was a loving and devoted Mom to her precious 3-year- old son, Desmond. She will be deeply missed by her loving partner, Bret Bennett of Columbia, MD, along with her two long time pups, Muzz and Juno.
Meghan decided to enter this world earlier than planned as if she couldn't wait to start her life any longer. True to being a Capricorn, instead of Aquarius, she unapologetically tackled life head on with tenacity, conviction and amazing creativity. There was never a doubt that she was the leader in any situation. But, over time, she grew more introspective with each challenge in life and learned to not let her fears do the driving. Her talents were many, but her writing "storytelling" would knock you over. She became vulnerable to her weaknesses and the flower of Meghan began to grow. Her frankness and intimacy opened relationships with people in one conversation. Meghan grew more beautiful with age as she grew into her best self. This past year she was in full bloom as you saw the peace and joy radiate from her as she spoke of love, work, and motherhood. Everyone knew that Des was her number one.
There is no way to gauge or describe the depth of her loss, and similarly there are no ways to measure the breadth, strength, and beauty of her soul. Once in the presence of Meghan, you grasp the rarity of the encounter. The flower may have fallen off the stem, but someday, somewhere a new one will emerge to be seen blooming again. She became that Dear Strong Woman.
Meghan is survived by mother and stepfather, Lisa and Robert Spekis of Port St Lucie, FL; father and stepmother Jeffrey Johnson and Diane Falsetti of Upper St. Clair, PA; siblings James (and Kiirsi) Johnson of Kent, OH; David (and Caitlin) Johnson of Moon Twp., PA, and Robby Spekis of Port St. Lucie, FL; stepsisters Sara (Matt) O’Brien and Emily Barna of Pittsburgh, PA.
