Born in Calcutta, India, Dr. Guzdar emigrated to the U.S. in 1976 to pursue post-doctoral work at Princeton University. In 1979, he moved to Maryland, beginning a 30+ year career at the Institute for Plasma Research at the University of Maryland as a Research Scientist.
A man of many talents, Dr. Guzdar enjoyed playing the piano, sports, traveling, reading and visiting museums. His passion for learning and knowledge was only eclipsed by his greatest passion: to help others. His generous spirit and compassion were his best qualities, and made him truly loved by all of those around him.
Survivors include his son, Cyrus Guzdar of Columbia, MD; daughter, Anahita Guzdar of Columbia, MD; former wife, Farida Guzdar of Columbia, MD, and her family in India; brother, Rohinton (Joyce) Guzdar of Seattle, WA; brother, Yezdi (Perveen) Guzdar of Concord, CA; nieces, nephews and many beloved friends.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Institute for Plasma Research in Gandhinagar, India, where Parvez received his Ph.D. and continued his relationship with the Institute, through teaching and research. Checks should be made payable to Institute for Plasma Research and mailed to Cyrus and Anahita Guzdar, 7481 Setting Sun Way, Columbia MD 21046.
