
Robert Lee Still, an esteemed elder of the Cherokee Nation, passed away on July 17, 2024, at the age of 69. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and friend, whose wit and wisdom touched the lives of many.
Born on April 5, 1955, in Fort Knox, Kentucky, Robert was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation. Throughout his life, he carried forward the traditions and values of his ancestors. He also held the title of “best older brother,” offering support, care, and protection to his brothers and sister—an aspect that will be forever remembered and sorely missed.
Robert had an unwavering passion for sports throughout his life. As a die-hard OU fan, he wore his crimson and cream with pride, viewing games whenever possible and supporting his team through every season. He delighted in the camaraderie and thrill of the game, often found cheering the Orioles enthusiastically at Camden Yards, fully embracing his proximity to the ballpark while living in Baltimore. His love for sports was a reflection of his vibrant spirit and zest for life.
A man of the earth, Robert found peace and joy in the great outdoors. He spent countless hours hunting and fishing, embracing the tranquility of nature. He also thoroughly enjoyed the flavors of fresh-caught fish fry and came to crave blue crab from the Inner Harbor while living on the East Coast. His passion for cooking allowed him to transform his catches into delicious meals, sharing his culinary creations with family and friends.
In addition to his passions, Robert dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his country and community. He enlisted in the Army, where he served honorably as a Pharmacist. He heroically served during Operation Desert Storm. Following his military service, he continued his career in healthcare with Mercy Medical Group, where he worked diligently until 2023. His commitment to the well-being of others was evident in every aspect of his journey.
Robert is survived by his loving family, including his children Branna Still, Brittney Fraley, and Austin Still; seven grandchildren, Salali Patron Still, Alicia Fraley, Charlie Fraley, Audrey Fraley, Lincoln Spark, Jaxon Still, and Theodore Still; his brother Kenneth Still and his sister Ellen Tiger; his nephew Ernie Tiger III; his nieces Charlotte Lowery and Casi Lynn Jennings; his great nieces Chloe Lowery and Lashay Lowery; his great nephew Elijah Lowery; his special aunt, Tiny; his cousins Larry Duehning, Mike Duehning, Matt Duehning; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He joins in heaven his parents, William and Betty Still, his brother, Terry Leon Still, his niece Kara Sue Lowery, and other family members and dear friends.
A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Reed-Culver Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Swimmer Cemetery in Lost City, Oklahoma.
Robert will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
