

Roy Ferguson was born on June 23, 1943 in Syracuse, New York to Winifred B. Ferguson (6/23/03-07/27/01) and Archibald J. Ferguson (5/4/93-6/30/76). He graduated in 1961 from North Syracuse Central High School and received a BA in 1965 from Binghamton University.
Virtually his entire working life was a an Actuary for the Social Security Administration, retiring in 2007 after 42 years.
He was a traveler, although in his earlier years it was mostly by bicycle, including rides from Baltimore to Montreal and from Baltimore most of the way to Miami. From age 50 the mode shifted to water, sailing everything from a freighter and ferries to cruise ships, and he set foot on every continent.
Community service was also one of his interests including Boy Scouts, his church, and several years with the Appalachia Service Project. He was Treasurer of the Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department in Clarksville for 30+ years.
His parents were born in southern Quebec and several relatives still live in the area, including the house where his mother was born.
He is pre-deceased by a brother, D. Roger Ferguson (6/14/41-2/14/21). Survivors include a niece, Amanda Wilson in Florida and a nephew, Keith Ferguson in California.
A visitation for Roy will be held Sunday, July 20, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Witzke Funeral Homes Inc., 5555 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD 21045. A funeral service will occur Monday, July 21, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. John United Church, 10431 Twin Rivers Rd, Columbia, MD 21044.
