Ruth Prettyman Dumont, 73, died peacefully in her sleep on November 18 at her home in Columbia. Ruth grew up in Rehoboth Beach, DE and graduated from high school ther in 1968. She obtained a nursing diploma from Milford Memorial Hospital, and BSPA from St. Joseph College in Maine. She worked at various Baltimore hospitals, and served six years as a Peace Corps nurse as well.
Throughout her entire life she was known for her love and advocacy for animals of all kinds. While in Africa she worked at a chimpanzee refuge and became acquainted with Jane Goodall. She also started the Lucky 7 program which gave incentives to adopt older dogs, and established her own highly rated pet sitting business, Pet Sitting by Ruth.
She is survived by her loving sister Carole Mauk McGill, two nieces Lauren McGill Driscoll of Stamford CT and Lee McGill Sigal of Providence RI, and many loving friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held for her in the spring.
