Born in Kirwin, Kansas to Hugh and Ila (Mays) Townsend, Sharon graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1953 and then went on to earn a Bachelors of Education at Kansas State University and her MA from Central Missouri State University. A life-long educator, she taught for over 40 years in the Kansas City area, most recently serving as the Vice Principal at Paseo Academy for the Performing Arts School, before her retirement in 2005. In 2011, she moved to Maryland to be near her daughter, Molly, her son-in-law, Gene Taft, and her granddaughter Anna.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11:00am at the Terrace Lake United Methodist Church, located at 4500 East Red Bridge Road in Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harvesters Community Food Network at www.harvesters.org.
