Annette McDonald

Annette spent her early years growing up in Long Island, New York, where she later graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a degree in nursing. Driven by a deep passion for caring for others, she continued her education and earned a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Missouri. She specialized in psychiatric nursing, dedicating her career to supporting the mental and emotional well-being of those in her care.

On December 4, 1982, Annette married Gregory Anthony McDonald. Together, they built a loving life and were blessed with two children, Jason and Marjorie, who were the center of her world.

Annette dedicated more than 30 years of her life as a registered nurse at the University of Missouri Hospital. Nursing was not just her profession; it was her calling. She touched countless lives with her compassion, kindness, and unwavering commitment to caring for others.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Jason McDonald of Overland Park, Kansas, and Marjorie McDonald of Columbia, Missouri; her brother, James “Jimmy” Howard and his wife, Maria, of Brazil; and her cherished grandchildren, Derrick McDonald, Braedyn Goodrick, and Julius Smith. She also leaves behind several extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband.

Annette had a heart as big as the outdoors she loved so much. She found joy in camping, hiking, and tending to her garden. A lifelong volleyball player, she carried her energy and love of the game throughout the years. She adored dogs and made sure her home was always filled with the companionship of a family pet while raising her children.

More than anything, Annette treasured her family. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with those she loved—especially her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Ya Ya.” Her warmth, laughter, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
