

Catherine Imogene “Jean” Murphy of Columbia died Monday, January 26, 2015 at Lenoir HCC where she resided for many years, at the age of 91 after a life dedicated to her faith and family. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 2nd at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia, MO at 11:00 with rosary at 9:30am and visitation to follow. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Jean Murphy was born March 28, 1923 in Clifton City, Missouri to Joseph and Margaret Judge Youngkamp and attended Arator Elementary School and Smithton High School, after which she graduated from Central Business College in Sedalia, Missouri. She married William Murphy on July 11, 1942 and moved to Columbia in 1946. Mrs. Murphy was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church where she was active in volunteer work. She was a member of the Ladies Society of Our Lady or Lourdes, the Sacred Heart Church Legion of Mary and the University of Missouri Women’s Extension Club along with bridge groups. Mrs. Murphy is survived by her son, Daniel Murphy of Newbury Park, CA; her daughter, Sharon Courtney of Fort Collins, CO; her grandson, Tod Courtney of Castle Rock, CO; her granddaughter, Laura Mandzi of Superior, CO; one great granddaughter, Jordan Courtney; as well as by her sisters, Dorothy Rosenberger of Kansas City, MO and Patricia Kane of Bloomfield Hills, MI and her brother, Fr. Vincent Youngkamp of St. Columbans’ Mission Society, RI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Mary Margaret Weber and Josephine Hudson; and her brother, John Youngkamp. The family is thankful to Lenoir HCC for their support and the kindnesses shown to Mrs. Murphy.
