Cathy was preceded in death by her grandparents Al and Marie Steck, and her grandmother Julia Stout.
Cathy was born June 11, 1962 in St. Louis MO, to Jim and Ellen Steck, of St. Louis MO. Surviving brain cancer, against all odds, at age 15, Cathy went on to live a full and loving life always reflecting God’s will.
Cathy married her best friend and soul mate, Dr. John Baird, on April 25, 1987 in St. Louis, MO, and from their union of marriage there are seven children: Catie Cartee (Billy), of Louisville, KY; Jay Baird, of Orlando, FL; Timothy Baird, of St. Louis, MO; Robbie Baird, of Chicago, IL; Daniel Baird, Emily Baird, and Nicholas Baird, all of Columbia, and granddaughter Samantha Cartee. Her survivors also include her parents Jim and Ellen Steck of St. Louis, MO, three siblings Jim Steck (Shelly), of Bloomington, IL; Mary Ellen Jablonski (Mike), of San Antonio, TX, and Dave Steck (Kaye), of St Louis, MO.
Cathy’s dedication to her family and others was unwavering. Whenever called upon she was there with a smile and all the love in the world. She had a heart of gold that she shared with everyone. Her selfless nature is something that her loved ones, along with everyone that knew her, will miss. Cathy was the type of woman that treated every child as her own. She made an impact on all who crossed her path and touched the lives of many. The time she didn’t spend caring and loving her seven children and husband, she spent volunteering for Operation School Bell. There she would work with underprivileged children from the surrounding community with the utmost patience and devotion. Helping and caring for others wasn’t just a passion for Cathy, but a lifestyle.
Cathy’s outer beauty was only outdone by her inner beauty. She was the definition of an angel here on Earth. Always putting others first. From lifelong friends, to friends she made along the way, Cathy will be dearly missed. Her love and beauty will forever live on in the hearts of everyone that had the honor of meeting her. In Cathy Baird we saw a little bit of God’s love reflected in return. May she rest in peace, our most beautiful angel. Glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on Earth!
Flowers are welcome. However, memorial contributions may be made to Operation School Bell/Assistance League of Mid Missouri 1729 W. Broadway, Columbia, MO 65203. www.almm.org
