

Charles Odell Chunn, 88, of Columbia, MO finished the race set before him and his faith became sight when he was called home by our Lord on Sunday, May 21, 2023. His family has the peace of the resurrection knowing that Charles’s hope was solely in the saving work of Jesus Christ. A private service will be held at a later date.
Charles was born May 29, 1934 in Ripley, MS to Lonnie and Lena Smith Chunn. He graduated from Walnut High School in 1955 and then attended Mississippi State College on a basketball scholarship. After college, he joined the US Air force and served for four years. He was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. After completing his service and returning to the US, he married Nancy Ann Davis on November 24, 1961. He worked for DuPont Chemical in Memphis, TN as a maintenance mechanic, retiring after 32 years. He served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher in his church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and water skiing. He taught multiple people how to water ski. Around the house he would garden, work on his car, and do home repairs. He also built the home in which he and Nancy raised their family.
Charles is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Nancy Chunn; daughters, Laura Grise of Columbia, Rhonda (David) Cochran of Lakeland, TN, Brenda Powell of Canton, GA; a son, Randy (Melissa) Chunn of Aledo, TX; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; siblings, Wynette Simmons of Drummonds, TN and Boyce (Pam) Chunn of Byhalia, MS; many nieces and nephews and a loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Aline Cutberth, Margie Lockhart, and Ruth Cutberth; and a brother, Randal Chunn.
