A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in the Windsor Ballroom at Holiday Inn Executive Center (Columbia, MO) from 4:00-6:00 PM.
Chuck was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana and served in the US Air Force as a Radar Technician from 1958-1962. During his service in the military he had one tour in Osan, Korea. He was a co-owner of Goodyear Tire Service Center in Herford, Texas from 1962-1968. From 1968-1970 he was a sales manager in Oklahoma City, OK for Goodyear Corporation. He decided to enter into the insurance world, and from 1970-1971 he worked for American Fidelity Insurance. In 1972 Chuck would move his family to Columbia, MO and become the State Manager for American Fidelity Insurance until 1975. In 1975, he went to work for Conley Meyers Insurance until 1979. From 1979-1997, he was an agent and District Manager for Farmers Insurance Group here in Columbia, MO. In 1997-2000, he was the Franchise Owner for Crestcom International.
Chuck met Bobbi Hunt, and they married on February 5, 1977. In October 2000, they opened Award Pet Supply which they ran together until they sold the business in 2014. It is now owned and operated by Lizzi & Rocco’s Natural Pet Market.
Many of you may have never realized that Chuck wasn’t a Columbia native because he did an amazing job of making our community his home. He was dedicated, passionate and heartfelt about a place that isn’t his “true” hometown, and yet he embraced Columbia, MO and gave back so much to a community he highly respected.
Chuck was involved in many organizations during his lifetime including Columbia Youth Football League, Cosmopolitan International Luncheon Club, Easter Seals, Chamber of Commerce, and Tiger Quarterback Club.
There were 3 organizations that really resonated with Chuck. The first was Columbia Youth Football League (CYFL), and he served 40 years dedicating his time and money to give kids a chance to play football including those families that couldn’t afford for their child to play. He always did it “for the kids” as he would say and loved to encourage each child to do their best. In 1994, with the help of CYFL and Columbia Parks & Recreation, they dedicated a field in Chuck’s honor, and as you drive into Cosmo Park you will see the Chuck Everitt Football Field.
Second, Chuck loved our Missouri Tigers, and almost every day you would see him wearing something that had a Missouri Tiger logo on it or something black and gold. He served nearly 25 years with the Tiger Quarterback Club, and 17 of those years were serving on their board. You can rest assured that when our Tigers were playing, Chuck was always cheering them on!
Finally, since 1973, Chuck genuinely loved his Chamber of Commerce family. From working with the Membership Committee, Business Expo, Junior Leadership, Total Resource Campaign (TRC), and of course, the Chamber Ambassadors. He truly loved these groups, and this is where he got his nickname “Chuckles” because of his famous smile and contagious laugh. He got involved in the Chamber Ambassadors in 1979 and currently holds the record for the most ribbon cutting points and the most Ambassador trees dedicated in his honor in the history of the Chamber Ambassadors. Yep, Chuck was proud of his 4,768 points and 4 Chamber Ambassador Trees planted throughout Columbia. He was just 232 points shy of earning his 5th tree; however, he didn’t want it if he couldn’t earn it on his own.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Bobbi Everitt of Columbia; sister-in-law, Arlyne Everitt of West Monroe, Louisiana; two children, Todd Everitt and his wife Paulette of Columbia; Marcia Spruytte and her husband Phillip of Olathe, Kansas; grandsons Ryan Jones of Overland Park, Kansas; Joshua Jones of De Moines, Iowa; and Dustin Fobes of Columbia, MO; great-grand daughters Emerson Jones of Overland Park, Kansas and Joyce Fobes of Columbia, MO; great-grand son Lathan Jones of Overland Park, Kansas; Nieces, Debbie Everitt Welker and Wendy Everitt of West Monroe, Louisiana; Nephews, Scott Everitt and Tim Everitt of West Monroe, Louisiana and close family friend/cousin Randy Pollock and wife Dru of Columbia, MO.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward Sr. & Dalal Everitt; brother, Bill Everitt, Aunt Faye Monsour and step-son, Brian Cook.
He truly made an impact on our community and our lives. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and mentor that many of us turned to when we needed a listening ear or friendly advice. Chuck was seen as a pillar within our community and will be greatly missed. He certainly wouldn’t want us to be sad that he is gone, but rather celebrate the life he lived. Chuck would want everyone to dress casual while we tell stories, laugh, cry, and enjoy the life he lived. We hope that you can join us for his Celebration of Life, and in lieu of cards/flowers, we ask that you send a donation to Columbia Youth Football League 1615 Business Loop 70 W Columbia, MO 65203 in his honor.
You will be greatly missed.
