I have fond memories of "Brother Clay" from my time working at the University Pharmacy. He was such a warm, caring, and helpful person working at the Cosmo Diabetes Center and I always enjoyed pinging him while visiting the "office" just inside the door (smile). 
He was constantly talking about "Char" and the rest of the family and obviously loved everyone very much and took great pride in you all. It was a pleasure to finally meet you and share a smile, a joke, and a laugh. Clay was a true gentleman, a humanitarian, and just a warm friend. I had not seen him in awhile, but for sure he will be missed!

I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved husband and my dearest friend. Clay was the best friend I have ever had and I will remember him  forever.  Both of you have been in my thoughts for the last forty six years. The band in heaven is now sounding a whole lot better with him sitting in.

I think my favorite memory of grandpa was going to Colorado together. He would watch me take nature shots and always comment on them. He would always tell me how proud he was of me.  I also miss when he would take me to his concerts and play his clarinet. .. we would also go to cjs and share their wings together and just talk. He is such a beautiful person,  I miss him more than anything.  I'm so blessed he was able to walk me down the aisle at our wedding in may. 

I worked with Clay several years at the Cosmopolitan International Diabetes Center. He was a pleasure to work with and made our work days run smoothly. I am sorry for your loss and your family is in my thoughts. 

I am so sorry to hear of Clay's passing.  Clay was my first trainer at the University 34 years ago.  He was always very patient and understanding. I'm grateful that I had such a person to learn from as  I am still working at the University all these years later.  May good memories comfort all that loved him.

Clay was kind and competent.  We enjoyed his service in the Nuclear Medicine Clinic of the VA Hospital. When he retired from service here on December 23, 2014, we gave him this "farewell card".

Clay is such a savvy guy
It breaks our heart to say goodbye
We know that Santa never leaves
That's a fact that us does please
So now we have to find a way
To make it Christmas every day

My husband and I have multiple memories of good times with Clay and his darling wife, Char.  We've traveled together, celebrated together, shared great food and wine together, laughed and sometimes cried together.  We will continue to treasure those memories.   RIP Sweet Clay.  Much love to Char and family.

In addition to his wife, Charlene, Clayton is survived by two children, Clayton Pickens Jr (Tracy) and Christen Rude, both of Columbia, MO; two sisters, Karen Sonne and Valerie Kunce and four grandchildren, Kayla Wenzel (Alex), Jennifer Wheeler (Aaron), Clayton Pickens III and Wyatt Rude.
