Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Memorial Funeral Home from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 with Rev. John Gillman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dora May was born on August 5, 1930 in Fulton, MO the daughter of Clinton and Hazel (Morts) Harris who preceded her in death. She was married on February 13, 1954 in Boonville, MO to Girard “Toot” Wren who preceded her in death on October 7, 2015.
Dora May graduated from Fulton High School in 1948 and began working for the City of Columbia in 1950 in the City Collectors office. She also worked in several other departments within the city before retiring in 1990.
After retiring she began a temporary job with the Columbia Fire Department at the training academy. While working there she was called “Mom” by the new fire recruits as they were able to come to her with just about anything. She was always ready with a smile and plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies. She continued to work as temporary help in various departments within the City and the Visitors and Convention Bureau until past her 80th birthday.
Survivors include: three sons, Gregory Wren (Barb) of Columbia, MO, Bruce Wren of Louisville, KY and Philip Wren (Gale) of Harrisburg, MO; three grandchildren, Josh Wren, Sunny Wren and Curtis Bruce; four sisters, Hazel Crane (Dale) , Ordith Skouby (Dick), Pauline Robertson (Jerry) and Phyllis McKinney; one sister-in-law, Elaine Harris, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Owen Harris, and two sisters, Frances Hyman and Carol Harris.
She enjoyed singing, dancing, sewing and crafts, spending time with her family and friends and watching Cardinal baseball.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, The Toot and Dora May Wren Firefighter Equipment Fund at 2000 E Broadway, Box 180 or at Central Bank of Boone County.
