John was born to Gene and Mary Nell Medley on December 24th 1973. He was a graduate of Willow Springs High School and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where he earned a Bachelor’s of Health Science in Physical Therapy in 1997. After a few years in professional practice, John decided to return to Columbia and pursue an MD, graduating in 2004.
While attending college, John met his Mizzou sweetheart, Jennifer Paine and the two were married on July 24, 1999. Together they created a beautiful family with their children Ella and Sam. As a family, they enjoyed traveling, amusement parks, checking out nature, band competitions and soccer games. Except for a brief stint in North Carolina while John was in residency at the University of North Carolina, they made their home in Missouri. Professionally, John was in private practice prior to assuming a teaching role at the University of Missouri School of Medicine where he most recently practiced.
John spent time in various sporting pursuits and favored playing golf, enjoying the quiet of the deer blind or being thigh deep in a river, fishing. He loved it and it didn’t matter the type of fish, time of day—bank or boat, he’d be ready to go. If you ever saw him land a fish, you saw pure joy. As a person, John was quick to help a stranger, solve a problem, or share a smile. He cherished his wife of 18 years and his children beyond measure.
John was preceded in death by his parents Gene and Mary Nell Medley and his brother in law, Kevin Lowe. He leaves behind his wife, Jennifer and children, Ella and Sam. He is also survived by his two sisters, Dana Lowe, Rogersville, Mo. And Dawn Medley-Wymore (Troy) of Lathrup Village, Mi., his in-laws, Jon and Terry Paine brother in law, Jon Paine (Laura), sister in law Christy Bourne (Dale) and nine nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop, Columbia, Mo. at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Medley Children’s Education Fund at Seymour Bank, Rogersville, Mo.
