Joyce Elizabeth Curtis passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Joyce was born in Brookfield, Missouri on September 4, 1939 to John and Lessie Klestinske. She was raised in Flat River, Missouri.
Joyce worked at the University of Missouri Medical School in the Dean’s Office where she met her future husband, Dr. Kenneth M. Kays. Together, they had three children. Joyce went on to work as the Alumni and Development Coordinator for the University of Missouri Medical School. She was integral in fundraising efforts for the medical school as well as the construction of Columbia’s Ronald McDonald House, a charity that Joyce continued to champion.
In 1979 she married Dr. Jack Curtis and they went on to have their son, Adam. Joyce filled her days with property management and eventually opened a floral business, Bloomers, with her eldest son, Peter. Joyce’s strong faith motivated her to dedicate a portion of their shop to another business, His Place, selling Christian books, Bibles, gifts and hosting study groups.
She is survived by her 4 children; Peter Kays of Columbia, Kimberly Motz and her husband Cary of Lone Tree, CO, Katherine Nicholas and her husband Scott of Austin, TX, Adam Curtis and his husband Michael Moran of Columbia, MO.
She is also survived by her four grandchildren; Connor Perry of Austin, TX, Dunovan Perry of Fort Hood, TX, Carter Motz of Boulder, CO and Tate Motz of Beaver Creek, CO.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 12:00-1:00 pm, at Christian Fellowship Church at 4600 Christian Fellowship Rd., Columbia, Missouri with the Service to immediately follow.
