

Lucia Rivera Rombach, age 85, passed away in Columbia, Missouri on January 6, 2024, during her favorite holiday, Dia de Reyes (Three Kings Day), following a sudden decline in her health. Born on December 12, 1938, in the picturesque mountain town of Barranquitas, located in the Cordillera Central region of Puerto Rico, Lucia led a life rich with love, dedication, and resilience.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frederick Julius Rombach, her mother, Juana Rivera, her father, Varo Colon, a sister, Evangelina Rivera, and a brother, Jose Espada, Lucia's legacy is carried forward by her loving family. She is survived by her brothers, Victor Rivera Colon and Manuel Colon, her sister, Violeta Santini, and her sister-in-law, Jane L. Rombach FSM. Her memory is also cherished in the hearts of her children - Frederick, Michael, John, Lisa Rombach-Cordoza (married to James Cordoza), and Marlaina Rombach-Miller. Lucia's life was further brightened by the joy of her 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Lucia's early years were marked by academic ambition and achievement. She pursued a secretarial program at the University of Puerto Rico, where her life took a serendipitous turn upon meeting her soulmate, Fred Rombach, a Missouri native. Their love story saw Lucia relocating to Columbia, Missouri in 1961, where they built a life filled with happiness and the blessings of five children.
Despite the demands of motherhood, Lucia was a paragon of perseverance and lifelong learning. She continued her education at Strawn Nursing School, eventually dedicating over 30 years of compassionate service as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the University of Missouri Hospital. Her commitment to her profession and her family serves as an enduring inspiration to all who knew her.
Lucia's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of love, commitment, and unyielding spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and the unspoken power of dreams fulfilled.
