Martha S. Haynes

Martha Sue Haynes, 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, surrounded by her children and grandchildren at the Neighborhoods by Tiger Place in Columbia, MO. Martha was born on March 3, 1939, to Guy and Melba (Minor) Richardson in Kansas City, MO. She married Robert (Bob) Haynes on March 9, 1957, in Holts Summit, MO.

Martha spent most of her career as a bookkeeper for the Division of Mental Health and other Missouri State agencies. In her retirement, Martha enjoyed finding treasures to sell in her booth at Itchy’s Flea Market in Columbia, MO.

Martha is survived by her children, Michael Haynes and Cheryl Unterschutz, and her grandson, Erich Unterschutz, all of Columbia; her granddaughter, Emily Unterschutz of Tucson, AZ; and her sisters, Deborah Robinson of Kansas City, MO, and Beverly Walden of Columbia, MO, along with other beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a son-in-law, Gary Unterschutz, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, located at 101 N 10th St, Columbia, MO. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with a reception to take place in the church basement. Entombment will be at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
