

She was born December 30, 1916 on the family farm (Catalpa Grove Angus Farm) in western Adair County near Pure Air, MO, the daughter of Frank and Ollie (Hammons) Eitel.
On June 23, 1940 she was married to John Francis Case, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by their two sons, John and Jerry.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Sharyn Fry of Columbia, MO, sister Faye Parsell of Jerseyville, Ill and sister-in-law, Barbara Eitel of Greencastle, MO, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Leora was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Reuben Eitel, Kenneth Eitel, both of Greencastle, Mo and Nile Eitel and wife Aldean of Green City, Mo, two sisters; Betty Swords and husband Dr. Harvey Swords of Dallas, Texas, and Veneta Burns and husband Kenneth of Elmer, MO, brother-in-laws; Harold Parsell of Jerseyville, Ill, Wilford Case of Streator, Ill, sister-in-law Eileen Hoernerdinger of Highland Park, Ill and Elizabeth Johnson of Westfield, N.Y.
Leora attended Maple Grove Rural School and graduated from Kirksville High School in 1936.
She taught at Maple Grove and Yarrow rural schools in western Adair County, MO. She attended Northeast MO State Teachers College and the University of MO. After she was married, they resided in Kirksville, MO where they operated a grocery business and then moved to Jefferson City where Francis served under the MO Dept. of Agriculture, before moving to Columbia, MO in 1954. After losing her 7 year old son Johnny to polio and her husband at a young age in 1958, Leora worked as a seamstress in her own furniture upholstery business and as an investor in residential real estate to provide for her son Jerry, who survived polio, putting him through college at the University of MO. Leora was a Charter Member of the Community Methodist Church in Columbia, MO
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday (September 17, 2014) at the Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, MO. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm at burial site at Ringo Point Cemetery, rural Greencastle, MO.
Pallbearers will be Kent Eitel, Lee Eitel, Layton Eitel, Joshua Eitel, Rod Swords, and C. Dean Rapp. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Parsell, Roger Fry, Frank Swords, and Wayne Eitel. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 16, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, MO.
