

CMS (Ret) Osgood Woodrow (Woody) Fountain, Jr of Columbia, MO left to go to his Heavenly home on November 8, 2025, to spend an eternal life with his father, mother, sister and brother. He was 83 years old. He was born and raised in Jeffersonville, GA.
Woody and Faye were united together on July 30, 1966, and she survives.
He served his country in the military (Army) for a period of 30 years. After his retirement he was employed with the Harry S Truman VA Hospital, Columbia, MO and served those WHO SERVED for 22 years.
During his tenure with the military, he received numerous awards to include the Good Conduct Medal (10th award) Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Bronze Star (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and “V” device for valor), and the legion of Merit.
His specialty in the military was in the Field Artillery. He served as a Cannoneer, Gunner, Chief of Section, Chief of Firing Battery, First Sergeant, Brigade Operations Sergeant Major and a Field Artillery Battalion Command Sergeant Major. He also served as a Drill Sergeant, and Commandant of the VII Corps Non-commissioned Officer (NCO) Academy.
He served two tours of duty in the following countries: Germany, Korea and Vietnam and one tour in Hawaii. His stateside duties include Ft. Benning, Ga, Ft. Jackson, Sc and Ft Campbell, Ky. His last military assignment was the Commandant of the VII CORPS Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Academy in Augsburg Germany. He retired from the VA Hospital as the Assistant Director of Health Administration.
He was the son of O.W. (Doc) and Gladys V. Fountain of Jeffersonville, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sarah Poole, brother, Andy Fountain, son, Wayne Johnson, and stepdaughter, Robbie Long.
He is survived by one son, Charles Fountain (Amie), one daughter, Tina Fountain, stepson, Steven Johnson, and stepdaughters, Barbara Doran, Patricia Parrish (Darrell) and 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
