Richard was born in Joplin, Missouri, on June 8, 1936, to Richard R. Wells and Lois L. Wilkerson.
Richard began his decades long career in insurance with Farmers Insurance Group in 1958. Over the years, he held several key positions, including District Manager in Columbia, Director of Commercial Marketing in Los Angeles, and Regional Manager for both the Los Angeles and Columbus Regions. He retired in 1998 but continued to serve on the Farmers National Board of Governors.
Richard met the love of his life, Suellen, in 1968 and they married on Aug. 14, 1969. Richard and Suellen loved RV traveling, visiting many destinations, and creating lasting memories together.
Richard is survived by his wife, Suellen Wells; five children, Richard R. Wells II, Deborah (Tom) Smith, Mark (Amy) Wells, Kirsten (Jen) Drew, C.K. (Paula) Hoenes, brother Charles (Linda) Wells, and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Wells; as well as nine grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary Wells.
