(Sims) Heibel, Sr. Bobby was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri and graduated from Hickman high school in 1960. Hickman is where he met the love of his life, Dorothy “Dottie” (Leech) of whom he mentioned many times, “was out of his league.” They married in 1964, eventually settling in Columbia, then Hallsville with their four sons.
After high school, Bobby attended the University of Missouri-Columbia with aspirations of fulfilling a degree in horticulture. He was committed for several semesters until his “side money” job as an apprentice bricklayer with his father and uncle, “overwhelmed him.” Several years later, he went into business with his late uncle Jack Heibel opening Heibel Masonry, Inc. Bobby eventually went solo with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local #15 of which he continued brick laying with his brother Joe until 2008 after over 50 years in the masonry industry.
Bobby spent 6 years serving in the Missouri National Guard in his late teens to early twenties, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Bobby had many passions and talents including earning his private pilot's license, flying model airplanes, playing guitar, showing horses, building hotrods, and the biggest bug, motocross, where he and all four of the boys eventually would join him on the racetrack. Bobby was instrumental in developing local motocross racing and was one of the founding members and past presidents of motocross parents (MXP) hosting AMA sanctioned motocross races at Finger Lakes State Park.
Later in life, Bobby was a huge fan and supporter of his grandchildren and great grandchildren where he attended many of their athletic events, faithfully providing his witty words of encouragement. He was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dottie of Hallsville, brothers John (Ruth) of St. Charles, and Joe (Kim) of Columbia, sisters Joan (Kenny) Caldwell of Fayetteville, AR and Teresa (Kenny) Heibel-White of Fulton, his four sons Todd (Javier) of Azusa, CA, Ben (Gena) of Salisbury, MO, Ashley (Kelsey) of Franklin, MN, Archer (Callie) of O’Fallon, MO, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many more loving in-laws, outlaws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his brother, Daniel “Danny” Heibel who was killed in action in Vietnam.
