Virginia Gilleland

Virginia (Ginny) Colvin Maynes Gilleland passed away April 22, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Clark, Missouri. She was born to Virgil and Della (Williamson) Colvin of Breckenridge, Missouri on December 21, 1931. She graduated from Breckenridge High School then attended William Jewell College for 2 years. Virginia earned her degree as a Registered Nurse at Saint Luke’s in Kansas City.

On June 21, 1954 she married James Garner Maynes and to this union four daughters were born. She was the Braymer C-4 school nurse for several years before going to work at Shirkey Leisure Acres Nursing Home in Richmond, Missouri.

Following her youngest daughter’s graduation she moved to Springfield, MO where she worked as a home healthcare nurse and met George Bruce Gilleland whom she married January 1, 1980. To the union came 7 trips to Hawaii and 43 years of happiness in the retirement years of her life.

Virginia loved to garden, travel, and spend time with her friends and family. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Springfield, Missouri.

Surviving her are daughters Jamie (Charlie) Roberts of Raymore, Missouri, Karen (Ed) Murphy of Friendswood, Texas, and Joy (Jerry) McBee of Clark, Missouri, six grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband James Maynes, her husband George Gilleland, her daughter Cheryl Maynes Treasure, her grandson Justin McBee, granddaughter Jennifer Alspaugh, stepson Rick Gilleland, brother Norman Colvin, and two sisters Dorotha (Colvin) Durley and Joyce Colvin.

Interment will be Monday, May 15, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Springfield Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, MO 65804.
