After graduating a year early, Dotsy attended USM in Hattiesburg, MS on a full piano scholarship. There she met and fell in love with Travis Myers. One year later, upon his graduation with a Masters Degree, they were married. They had two children, Vistra and Travis Jr. After three years residing in Natchez, MS, they moved and settled in McComb.
Dotsy was a pioneer of women in the business world. She started her own successful Dance School business over the old E-P Journal building, then over the old McComb Bakery, then to the American Legion Hut building, where many will remember her annual 6th grade Ballroom Dance Course. From there she purchased her landmark "Dotsy's School of Dance" on Delaware Ave. There she was a dedicated and a loving Teacher to her MANY students for 33 years. She was also a judge for many Beauty Pageants and coached several winners of the Miss Mississippi Beauty Pageant who went on to do very well in the Miss America Pageant.
After becoming a widow, she continued teaching, and met and married Wiley Barron, an ICRR Engineer. They had two children, Wiley Jr. and Morrisa.
Dotsy continued making many strides in the Dance arena. She was key Instructor for many National Dance Conventions held in New Orleans, the MS Gulf Coast, Tennessee, and Texas. Also holding offices as President for NADAA and MDA dance associations.
She was very active in her beloved Summit United Methodist Church, where she served as Choir Director and President of UMW (United Methodist Women).
After retiring from her many years of teaching Dance, she taught private Piano lessons on her grand piano to many aspiring pianists.
Miss Dotsy will always be remembered as a loving Mother, a Business Woman, an outstanding Dance and Piano Teacher, an Artist and Musician, and for her Giving Heart.
Miss Dotsy was preceded in death by her husbands, Travis Myers, Sr., and Wiley Barron, Sr.; son, Travis Myers, Jr.; parents, Buford Larkin Fillingame and Robbeye Dearman Fillingame; and brother, Buford L. Fillingame, Jr. Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Vistra Wilson of Summit, MS, and Morrisa Walker (Chuck) of McComb; a son, Wiley Barron, Jr. (Gabriela) of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren, Christian Wilson of Summit, Derrick Walker of Clarksville, IN, and Kirk Walker of Brandon, MS.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Summit United Methodist Church where family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time. Reverend Diane Woodall will preside over services and burial will follow at Columbia City Cemetery in Columbia, MS.
