Doyle Wayne Tolar was born on May 6th, 1940 in Gulfport, Mississippi. His parents were Robert (“Bob”) and Ouida Mae (Stringer) Tolar. He grew up hunting and fishing in the woods and on the creeks and ponds around Sandy Hook, Mississippi with many kinfolk and friends that lived nearby. Doyle never met a stranger, was known for his sense of humor, and was generous to a fault. He had a quiet yet strong faith in his savior Jesus Christ and sought to raise his children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
After graduating from Columbia High School, Doyle enlisted in the Air Force and was soon stationed in Sacramento and eventually Taiwan. While in Sacramento, he met a beautiful young woman at a USO dance, Gloria Musgrave from Yreka, California. Doyle and Gloria were married six months later in Reno, Nevada. Their first child, Denise, was born nine months after that. He was known as “Wayne” to Gloria’s family as they couldn’t say “Doyle” with the proper Southern pronunciation.
After Doyle was discharged from the Air Force, he and Gloria moved to Bogalusa, Louisiana, where Doyle joined the railroad and they had two boys: Dennis and Darrin. They moved to Pearl, Mississippi in 1973 when Doyle was transferred to the Jackson rail yard. After 60 years of marriage, Gloria passed away in May of 2020.
On Thursday, August 22th, 2024, Doyle went home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, his parents, and his brother, Bobby Joe Tolar. He is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Frankie (Tolar) and Glen Stogner, Debbie (Tolar) and Chris Jenkins; his daughter, Denise (Tolar) Rickles; his sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Shirlene (Brady) Tolar and Darrin and Tina (Collum) Tolar, as well as nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins and life-long friends. He was the most loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, or friend we could ask for.
A visitation for Doyle will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
