My friend and colleague Doug was a giant among men. He was eloquent in the pulpit and lived faithfully in life what he preached. I have never known a man with such grace and humility. Many thousands have been blessed and the Kingdom of God has been enlarged because of my friend who lived so well. My dear Prue, this is a hard time, but the eternal spring is coming when truely all things shall be made new and eternal. Dorene and I pray for you and every member of your family. We are honored to have such friends as the Lairds.

Prudence [Prue] McCullough Laird
Doug and I were married August 12, 1945, celebrated our 68th Wedding Anniversary in August ... and celebrated his 87th birthday at Forrest General Hospital.  His body was made whole at 1:44am 9-11-2013.  Our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss him but we rejoice in the knowledge that he is not suffering but enjoying the blessings of heaven he preached about so much.
The children and I thank you for your prayers and condolences and thanks to Bunker Hill Baptist Church ...that he loved so much. Thanks to everyone who took part in The Celebration of Life Service, Brother Gardner, Brother Ray and for Charles Lewis Polk, who took my wishes and made it happen. Prue

Dr. Laird was my pastor when I was a little girl in Carthage, Texas.  He made an early impact on my life for the Lord, whom I have been privileged to serve for all these years.  My husband and I just celebrated 50 years in the ministry.  My prayers are with Pru and the family--such an impact on my life!

So sorry to hear of the passing of Bro. Laird.  I have such sweet memories of our time together at First Baptist, Carthage. Am praying for you and the family.

God blessed our family many, many years ago by leading the Lairds to Beckville, TX, where we first met.  Later in Carthage Dr. Laird was my pastor, and Prue and I shared many happy hours together playing the organ and piano at FBC.  Then again we served together at Field Street Baptist in Cleburne.  So many precious memories of one of the Lord's choicest statesman-preachers!  My sisters and I were so blessed to spend several formative years under Dr. Laird's ministry.  We are praying for the precious Laird family during this difficult time.

I remember the first time I heard Dr. Laird preach. It was at Beacon, Port Arthur, TX in the late 50's. Always remembered how he was dignified yet so humble. In the past few  years I was blessed to visit with him when he returned for Jacksonville College Homecomings. Mrs. Laird my thoughts and prayers are with you and your children as you experience this temporary separation.

We are thankful that God brought the Laird family into our lives many years ago. You have both been friends that just feel more like family. May God bless your family in the loss of Dr. Laird. We share your grief and pray for you.

Bro. Laird was President at JC when I was a student. He was a blessing to me and I have never forgoten his advise on my ministry. His life live on in those of us he touched many years ago.

Dr. Laird especially touched our family when my Dad, Eugene Gauntt was a student at Jacksonville College in the mid-50s. A couple of years later, Bro. Laird visited Dad's church near Carthage Tx when I was a boy, and I recall that just before he preached, he sang a solo in the service.  I was struck by his beautiful bass voice.  My Dad followed his ministry in the years to come, including pastorates in Cleburne and Oak Cliff.  Dr. Laird certainly left an indelible mark, not only on our family, but on a vast number of souls and two Baptist denominations and their institutions of higher learning.  God bless you and your entire family,Mrs. Laird during this time of temporary separation from your loved one.
