John H. “Lil John” Cook, of Columbia, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the age of 63. He was born in Columbia to R. J. and Lee Alice Cook and has remained a lifelong resident of Columbia. Lil John worked as a plumber for over 30 years and eventually owned his own plumbing business. He loved eating seafood and enjoyed boiling crawfish for any gathering. John loved his family and cherished the time spent together.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Broom and Patsy Wells; and three brothers, Clifton Green, Wayne Cook, and Billy Joe Green. Lil John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce Cook; three daughters, Christina Lowery, Susan Cook, and Mary Ann Bowers (Donald); a sister, Mary Lou Terrell; seven grandchildren, John John Lowery, Summer Lowery, P. J. Turlich, Kristen Turlich, Cody Jones, Brandon Johnson, and Jacob Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephew, including a special niece, Eva Bond (Robbie) and a special nephew, Johnathan Roberts (Brandy).
Funeral services will be at a later date and will be announced when arrangements have been finalized.
