Kent H. Holmes, of the Society Hill Community in Mississippi, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the age of 83. He was born in Baxterville, Mississippi to Howard and Audrey Holmes and was raised in Prentiss, Mississippi. Kent worked for over 40 years in the oil and gas industry. First, working offshore on drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and the last 20 years, he lived in Cairo, Egypt working as a drilling superintendent. Retiring in 2005, he came home to Jefferson Davis County where he was a member of Society Hill Baptist Church. Kent was a man of faith and served his community and his Lord as a Deacon in his church. He was a hard worker, devoted to his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Holmes; a son-in-law, Allen Morgan; and a brother-in-law, Sammy Hines. Kent is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jo Holmes; two daughters, Twila Morgan and Dana (Donnie) Praytor; a son Kevin (Christy) Holmes; a sister Gail Hines; nine grandchildren, Shauna Morgan, Chase (Linda) Morgan, Nicole (Kevin) Berg, Jennifer (Blake) Wood, Kylie Holmes, Presley Holmes, Trinity Holmes, Breezey Cox, and Rayne (Lynn) Praytor; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation for Kent at Colonial Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 5:30pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Reverend Paul Young, will be at Society Hill Baptist Church on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 11:00am. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00am until service time. Burial will follow in Society Hill Cemetery assisted by Chase Morgan, Rayne Praytor, Cole Rozek, Cole Cox, Kevin Berg, Blake Wood, and Lane Stogner serving as pallbearers.
