

Our world is dimmer, and heaven is much brighter, as Margaret Jo Selman, 81 passed away on February 12, 2013, at The Myrtles Nursing Home in Columbia, MS. "Mama Jo" as she was known to everyone in town, was born on January 16, 1932 in Columbia, Ms. to A.J. and Katherine Barber. Jo Grew up in Columbia, MS. After Completing her education, she met and married the love of her life Warren J. Selman, Sr. in Columbia, MS. They were happily married for 64 years, 10 months. They operated the Bar-Sel Personal Care Home together for 30 years, providing a home to individuals who were mentally challenged. "Mama Jo" was known for her compassion and love for those who were disadvantaged and had special needs. She always had a smile on her face and welcomed anyone into her home, but especially the less fortunate. She simply enjoyed helping others! Jo was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and found no greater joy than to attend and worship with her church family. Upon meeting Jo, and looking into her face, it was evident that she was a woman of strong faith with a love for God. Jo is survived by her husband, Warren J. Selman, Sr., of Columbia, MS; her daughters and son: Wanda Gay Broome and Jo Beth(Louis) Crout of Columbia, MS; Catherine R. "Cat" Selman of Vonore, Tn; Warren J. (Rebecca) Selman,Jr. of Gulfport, MS; two sisters, Janice Katherine Clark and Jerry (Charles) Powell of Columbia, MS; one brother James Alford(Joy) Barber of Terry, MS; seven grandchildren: Mark (Vicky) Broome; Bradley Broome; Barry (Kimberly) Broome, Stephen (Dana) Robertson; Patrick (Melissa) Robertson; Elizabeth (MacDaniel) Robertson; and Jay Selman; 14 great-grandchildren; Jeff, Jennifer, Caleb, Hope, Terry, & Brandon Broome; Kelsie Broome, Oni, Audrey, Mia, & Ian Robertson; Tarn Robertson; Kayleigh & Daniel Roberson; and her nieces and nephews and other relatives. The family will be greeting friends and relatives on Thursday Evening (February 14th from 6:00pm--9.00pm at Colonial Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on February 15th at 11:00a.m. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
