Nancy Carolyn Magee, of Columbia, Mississippi, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born in Marion County to Arthur and Myrtle Holland and has remained a lifelong resident of Walthall and Marion Counties. Granny Gee, as she was known to most, earned her bachelor's degree in education from Mississippi Southern College where she was chosen Student Teacher of the Year. She also received a master's degree from North Texas State University and worked toward her doctorate at Mississippi State University. She taught in public schools for 25 years before retiring. Granny Gee enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, and traveling and was proud to inform that she had visited all 50 of the United States of America. If you knew Granny Gee, you would know that she was a woman of deep faith who served her Lord and her community through her membership for many years with Pine Grove United Pentecostal Church and currently her membership with Woodlawn Church. She was a mighty prayer warrior and was known for being generous with her time and was always helping anyone with a need, especially the elderly. Granny Gee will be remembered for the love she had for her Savior and for the legacy of faith that she left for her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Nyers; four brothers, Charles Holland, June Holland, Billy Holland, and Jimmy Holland; a granddaughter, Tina McKenzie; and her beloved husband, George Magee. Granny Gee is survived by three daughters, Shirley McKenzie, Toni McKenzie, and Linda Neal (Amos); six grandchildren, Darren McKenzie (Nicole), Elisha McKenzie, Ben McKenzie (Michelle), Mary Ridley (Nelson), Brock Neal (Leann), and Chelsey Henley (Price); nineteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation at Woodlawn Church on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service to celebrate Granny Gee's life will be on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 12:00pm where friends may visit with the family from 10:00am until service time. Burial will follow in Magee's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
