Peggy Rue McKenzie

Peggy Rue McKenzie, age 82 of Foxworth, MS passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. She was born in Walthall County and was of the Church of God faith. Peggy worked for Sears and Roebuck in Columbia, MS before becoming a secretary with the MS Forestry Commission where she retired after 30 years of employment. After retirement, Peggy became a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked hummingbirds and her pets had a special place in her heart.

Mrs. McKenzie was preceded in death by her parents, George Smith, Jr. and Maxine Beard Smith; sister, Melinda Smith; brother, Larry D. Smith; and grandson, Joshua D. McKenzie. Her memory will be forever cherished by her husband, Donnie McKenzie of Foxworth; daughters, Donna West (Randy), and Shelia Ryals (Eugene), both of Foxworth; a sister, Sonya Fite of Foxworth; a brother, Rickey Smith of Moody, AL; two grandchildren, Ashley West, and Amanda Smith; and six great-grandchildren, Paden Hibley, Avery Hibley, Judson Smith, Aleyah Smith, Tyler Marlin, and Jaxson Marlin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia where family will receive friends from 10:00 am until service time. Reverend Scottie Smith will officiate and burial will follow at Richland Creek Cemetery assisted by Matthew Fite, Hunter Fite, Eric Fite, Paden Hibley, Randy West, and Eugene Ryals as pallbearers.
