Willie James “Jack” Broom, of Columbia, Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the age of 90. He was born in Columbia to Guy and Nettie Mae Broom where he has remained a lifelong resident. Jack was a dairy farmer and was an excellent mechanic who could repair anything. He was a godly man of faith who loved the Lord. He served his Lord and his community through his membership with Grace Baptist Church where he was a longtime deacon. Jack enjoyed gardening and loved his time spent at his cabin retreat overlooking the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was devoted to his family. Jack had a special bond with his grandson and cherished their time together and with the great-grandchildren. He was kind, patient, and forgiving. Jack will be remembered for his willingness to go out of his way to help anyone and expecting nothing in return.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, four brothers, and a son, James O’Neal Broom. Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Willie Mae Broom; a daughter, Melinda McNease (Randy); a grandson, Trent Barber (Danielle); five great-grandchildren, Hayden Barber, Jolee Barber, Taryn Barber, Aedyn Barber, and Katelyn Kinler; a brother, Lennis Broom (Diane); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral services for Jack will be private.
