

GARDEN CITY BEACH – Funeral services for Carol Boswell Simpson, 78, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St.Andrew’s Chapel with entombment to follow at Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
Mrs. Simpson was born October 17, 1934 in Charlotte, NC as Carol Bond Cameron and passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. Carol was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Cameron. The youngest of three children, she was predeceased by her brothers Donald and William Cameron. The family resided in Myrtle Beach and Garden City where she grew up and developed a love for the ocean, sea shells and nature, along with the love for horseback riding and dogs. Carol’s also had a passion for music and singing which helped her earn the title as Miss Myrtle Beach in 1952 and 1954.
Carol attended Converse College and the University of South Carolina where she studied voice and music. She met her husband, Robert A. Boswell, while attending USC and they married in 1955. They had three boys; Robert Andrew Jr., William Cameron and Barry Scott. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Carol also leaves behind six grandchildren, Tina Johnson, Katie Boswell, Rob Boswell, Scott Boswell, Ryan Boswell and Tyler Boswell; and great-grandson, Dillon Johnson. Carol’s first husband died in 1992 and she was remarried to Robert Simpson in 1993. She spent the majority of her life in Columbia until her second husband died in 2005. In 2009, she decided to move back to Garden City. Carol’s love for music and nature never left her as she sang in the choir and local musicals. Her passion for shells motivated her to form the Palmetto Shell Club in 1988 and served as its first president. The club still has many active members to this day.
Carol volunteered at Lexington Medical Center, Red Cross, Heart Association, Home Room Mother, St. Andrew’s Swim Club, Chapin Chamber of Commerce, taught Sunday school and was a Den mother. She was also a member of the Women’s Golf Association at Coldstream Country Club.
Carol Simpson never met a stranger and everybody who knew her had a friend for life. She will be missed dearly by a very long list of friends and especially her family. Carol had a strong passion for life and lived it to the fullest. Everyone who met her loved her and she was known as “Momma C” by all. There is a void in many hearts that can never be filled with her passing.
