COLUMBIA - Christopher Jay Werner, II, 15, died Sunday, August 27, 2017. Born June 17, 2002 in Indianapolis, IN, he was a son of Christopher J Werner and the late Bridget Melancon. A memorial will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fort Jackson Main Post Chapel. A reception will be held in the basement following the service. He was the best son, brother, nephew, grandson, and friend to so many. He was a gaming fanatic and lived in the world of HALO, Skyrim, Fallout, MarioKart, Sims and Mindcraft. He loved watching his dads softball games almost as much as the nachos and sunflower seeds that came with spectating. Rice and beans, chips and salsa, microwave popcorn, but especially mom's gumbo were his favorite foods. He truly appreciated seeing a great part of the world at such a young age with travels associated with his Dad's military service. He especially loved his family and willingly shared stories of his and their adventures. He had the kindest heart and it was open to everyone. He will be missed by all. Surviving are his father, Christopher Werner; Sisters, Erika Field, of Columbia, Eriel Smith, of Alabama, and Cameron Werner, of Wisconsin; Brother, Tristan Gonzalez, of Columbia; Uncles and Aunts, Joe and Elizabeth Werner of Minnesota, Jason and Leonia Fruge of Texas; Uncle, Lawrence Broussard of Texas; Grandmother, Gail Werner, of Minnesota; and other extended family. The family wishes to thank the leadership of the Soldier Support Institute and 369 AG Bn, Fort Jackson, SC. They would also like to thank past leadership and friends.
