

COLUMBIA – Clayton Harris, affectionately called “Brother”, was born on March 26, 1935 in Eastover, South Carolina to the late Daisy Wilson Harris and late Willie B. Harris and raised by the late Pearline Wilson Harris. He departed his earthly life on July 17, 2017 surrounded by his loving children at Rice Estate Rehabilitation Arbor Center, Columbia, South Carolina.
Clayton was educated at the Richland public school, Webber High School. At an early age, he joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Clayton was a hard worker, employed as a truck driver by Caughman Feed and Adluh Flour. He worked at Elmwood Cemetery for over 34 years as a caretaker.
Clayton was preceded in death by his father, Willie B. Harris; mothers, Daisy Wilson Harris and Pearline Wilson Harris; brothers, Chesterfield (Bo) Harris and Green Wilson, Sr. and Sister, Seretha Walker Jacob.
He was united in holy matrimony to Leola Frances Pringle Harris for 61 years. Unto this union, seven children were born; three sons, Willie James (Mary) Harris, Columbia, SC, Ulysses (Mayra) Harris, Madison, AL, and Ronald Clayton Harris, Columbia, SC and four daughters, Gloria (Larry) Lebby, Columbia, SC, Delores (Elton) Vrede, Columbia, SC, Joann (Antonio) Glenn, Loganville, GA and Brenda (Tony) Garrick, Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, John Matthew Harris, Columbia, SC and one sister, Mae Frances Lloyd, Gadsden, SC; two sisters-in-law, Henrietta Wilson and Gladys Pringle Barnes of Columbia, SC; two special nieces, Minister Earline (Rev. Nathaniel) Alford and Linda Walker, and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1129 Congaree Church Rd., Gadsden, SC 29052, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 501 Elmwood Ave., Columbia, SC 29201.
