He studied Mechanical Engineering, played football at and graduated with a BA from Columbia College and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia Engineering class of 1954. Dave's professional career as an engineering contractor working on HVAC and building systems was with the Nass Corporation, later Wolff Munier, Inc.
He was the loving husband to his high school sweetheart, Henrietta Corrine Bowden Nass, for over 65 years. Together they raised their four children in Pittsburgh, PA, South Plantation, FL, and Ramsey, NJ. In retirement they settled in Columbia, SC where they enjoyed playing golf and the warmer weather. Dave and Henri were members of the Spring Valley Presbyterian Church and they enjoyed participating at the Shepherd’s Center of Columbia. Dave was an avid sportsman and golfer. He was a member of the Midlands Seniors Golf Association. He was passionate about rooting for his Steelers.
David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Henrietta Corrine Bowden; his parents, Arthur Frederick Nass Sr. and Marie Margaret Bauer Nass; his sister, Jean Katherine Heselbarth and brother, Arthur Frederick Nass Jr., and his son, David Alan Nass Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Ann Benjamin (Michael), and sons, Daniel A. Nass (Elizabeth), and Dean A. Nass; his grandchildren, Miles C. Benjamin (Julia), Audrey Helle (Jason), Emily Benjamin, John-Paul Nass, and Marguerite Nass, and his great grandson, Theodore “Teddy” Benjamin.
Dave was very much the handyman and whenever visiting family he quietly made sure to fix anything that wasn’t working. Sometimes he was even called by family members to fix things that were not working. He was always a person you could count on and didn't hesitate to help anyone in need. Dave's family meant everything to him. He was a great husband, but most of all he was the best father and Pop Pop ever. We have many memories of Pop Pop sitting on the floor playing with trains or musical instruments with his grandkids. We love you, we miss you, and we will continue to make you proud. Rest in peace, dear Pop Pop.
A service celebrating David’s life will be held on Monday, September 16, at 1:00 pm at the Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, 125 Sparkleberry Lane, Columbia, SC.
