
COLUMBIA –Funeral services for Edith Ann Cooke, 84, will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, May 30th, at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Reverend Alice Odell. Interment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel.
Mrs. Cooke, widow of Raymond K. Cooke, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Born in High Pointe, NC, April 2, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lou Johnson Parsons. She was a Registered Nurse and a graduate of High Point Memorial Hospital where she was Miss Student Nurse of 1950. Mrs. Cooke completed a Post graduate course in Operating Room Technique and Management at Graduate Hospital, University of Pennsylvania. She worked as a supervisor of a urology clinic and surgical nurse for several years. She also was Emergency Room Supervisor at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. She served eight years as an Air Force Nurse during the Vietnam era, serving in Goose Bay, Labrador, Loring, Maine, Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, and Shaw Air Force Base. Mrs. Cooke was a Charter Member of the United States Military Women’s Memorial. She also was School Nurse at Irmo High for eight years. She was a member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her son, James S and Kathryn Cooke of Lexington, SC; step-sons, Robert K. Cooke of Lexington, Thomas L. and Patricia Cooke of Gulfport, Mississippi; step-daughter, Judith C. and Jack Hollifield of Woodstock, Virginia; two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and fourteen step-great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy White of Waynesville, NC and sister-in-law, Ina Parsons of Candor, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church.
