Gary Edward Anderson

Columbia: The memorial service for Mr. Gary Edward Anderson, 67, will be held 2:30 Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at The First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, 1324 Marion St., with burial following in the Churchyard. The Rev. David H. Lauten and The Rev. L. Craig Wilkes will officiate. A reception in the Atrium of Jackson Hall will follow. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, World Missions (Scotland & Uganda) 1324 Marion St., Columbia, SC 29201 or the charity of one’s choice. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mr. Anderson died Sunday, April 24, 2011. Born April 4, 1944 in Port Huron, MI, he was a son of the late Thurman Paul Anderson and Marian Jennie Lickfeldt Anderson Shaw. Gary was active in Columbia civic affairs including former President of Columbia Jaycees, a former member of the Columbia Action Council and the advisory committee of the Riverfront Canal Project. He was a graduate of USC where he earned a BS in Business Administration (Banking and Finance). Gary worked as a broker for Russell & Jeffcoat Real Estate, Inc. for 23 years and as a banker prior to his real estate career.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Mayo Elliott Anderson of Columbia; a son, Gary E. “Andy” (Lara) Anderson, Jr. of Columbia; his daughters, Julie A. (Luke) Swanson of Charlotte and Jennie A. (Brian) Edwards of Florence; brother and sister, T. Paul (Linda) Anderson, Jr. of Sterling Heights, MI and Nancy K. (James) Prisk of Lake, MI. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Maleah and Ashlyn Anderson of Columbia, Foster, Banks and Sam Swanson of Charlotte, Carlisle, Evelyn and Vivian Edwards of Florence; nieces, Heather Anderson of East Lansing, MI and Alicia (Bobby) Maphies of McKinney TX; nephew, Robb Prisk of Finley, OH; and great nephews, Jacob and Jett Prisk.
