

James H. Huffman, Sr., widower of Juanita W. Huffman, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Born in Columbia, SC, He was the son of Jacob Haskell Huffman and Eunice Starnes Huffman.
Mr. Huffman was a member of Eau Claire Baptist Church and was retired from Pirelli Tire Corporation. He was an avid golfer and was elected to the SC Golf Hall of Fame in 1981. At his induction ceremony his nominator said, “His experience in the field of golf has been extensive and varied. I know of no man in the field of golf who has done more to develop and advance golf for both juniors and seniors in South Carolina than Jim Huffman.” He served twice as president of Columbia Country Club.
He is survived by a son, James H. Huffman, Jr. (Carol) of St. Matthews, SC; and daughters, Kathryn H. Powers of Leesville, SC and Nancy H. Thomason (Bill) of Greenwood, SC; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene H. Prince of Columbia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Huffman was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and a great-granddaughter.
Graveside services for Mr. Huffman will be held at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Rd, Lexington, 11 o’clock, Thursday morning, December 15, 2011, with Chaplain Chuck Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
