Lynn Carman Owens

The funeral service for Lynn Owens, 69, of Blythewood, will be held 2 o’clock, Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Spring Valley Baptist Church, with The Rev. Dr. Robert Winburn officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Tuesday evening, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Mrs. Owens died Sunday, June 5, 2011. Born in Easley, SC, she was a daughter of George Wallace Carman and Leona Grace Rampey Carman. Lynn graduated from Easley High School in 1959 and later attended Draughn’s Business School. She and her late husband, Gerald N. “Jerry” Owens, were married on December 13, 1959. Lynn then became a Navy wife, as Jerry served in Charleston, Scotland, Portsmouth, VA, Guam and Bremerton, WA. After Jerry retired, they settled in Columbia. She was a homemaker for many years, but worked at the Dept. of Health while in Virginia. She also worked for DHEC and retired from SC Office of Rural Health.

Since her retirement, Lynn had worked as a volunteer at The Therapy Place. She was an active member of Spring Valley Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. Lynn was a devoted wife, a loving and proud mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her.

Survivors include sons, Gerald “Butch” Owens and wife, Denise, of Columbia, Russell Owens and wife, Chrystal, of Blythewood; daughter, Susan Abell and husband, Clark, of Blythewood; grandchildren, Garrett, Andrew, Tyler, Chad, Cameron, Conner, Abigail, and Russell Ray “RJ”; sisters, Grace Davis and husband, Winder, of Plantation, FL, Brenda Merck and husband, Craig, of Easley; as well as a brother, George “Bud” Carman of Easley.
