Mary Linda Cate

MONCKS CORNER - Mary Linda Cate, 59, daughter of Millard and Mary Lou Readling Cate, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, May 6, 2011, at her home in Moncks Corner, SC. A native of Columbia, Mary was 1969 valedictorian graduate of Columbia High School, and Honors Program and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of South Carolina. Upon graduation from USC’s College of Education, she taught science in Bennettsville, SC, and after completion of her Master’s degree, she taught for many years at College Park Middle School in Ladson, SC. She recently had retired from the Berkeley County School District office.

Mary was predeceased by her parents and sister, Jean Cate Byrd, and is survived by her brother, Dr. Vasa Cate and his wife, Brenda, sister, Gary Ann Cate Greer and her husband, Ed, sister, Susan Cate, and her nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends after the service at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, 5400 Bush River Rd. Memorials may be made to the Berkeley County SPCA at P.O.
